The society norm when it comes to cell phone use or any device that interrupts a public showing of a movie is strictly enforced by employees has well as the patrons that paid money to have a distracting free experience. Even before the coming attractions start, the message on the screen lets everyone know to be respectful and turn off all electronic devices. The rules are pretty clear and if anyone breaks the rules will pay with evil stares and loud direct comments. Also the unwritten rule of no talking during the movie and giving away spoilers about what is to come is another type of movie theater norm. Besides a bright light illuminating the room, talking during the movie will yield the same results from others. If there was a movie jail, these people would be giving a life sentence that’s how serious the public take’s watching a…
On December 26th, George Washington devised a perilous plan to cross the Delaware River and attack the Hessians. After a short battle, almost two-thirds of the Hessians were captured or killed. The battle of Trenton was not just a crucial win for the Patriots and George Washington but was also a tremendous confidence and morale boost for the Continental army and inspired reenlistments. This left the Loyalists in the dust.…
Overall respect is on a decline. There’s nothing respectful about the majority of movie goers being disruptive and it’s unbearable. From the cell phone users to the litter-bugs, and the crying babies to the marathon talker, a genuinely good time at the movies is starting to become scarce. Surprisingly, the movies seemed to be filled more and more with audiences who not only accept but add on to the chaos. It is not acceptable for people to act with such a blatant disregard for others attending a movie for enjoyment. I used to be a frequent movie-goer, but due to the rudeness of others my attendance has wavered. Even the mere thought of going to the movies brings on a slight cringe because of who might be there to ruin it. I have witnessed popcorn battles, screaming matches, and missed movie parts. I feel height, bad smell, and the occasional ringing cell phone is forgettable, but continuous talking or altercations makes the movies less enjoyable. I definitely feel strong about the fact of ushers not really doing their job. If they used their authoritive rights the theater would be a much more respectable place. Bill Wine definitely hit all the marks in exposing the problems at the movies, vocalizing all the things that many of us alike feel. Hopefully, audiences can become more aware of these issues and be a part of a solution to the…

“The whole world is a playhouse” was a phrase that hung above one of the most well-known theaters in the Elizabethan Era. Because of the high demand of entertainment in that time period, The Globe Theater became an enormous success. People in Shakespeare's time desperately wanted some sort of entertainment to take their mind of their hardships and The Globe provided that break. Moreover, many of William Shakespeare's plays performed at this theater, helping make The Globe famous not only back then but also today. In London, people still flock to a replica of The Globe to watch Shakespeare's plays. This theater has a fascinating beginning, unusual entertainment, and a tragic end yet it still remains one of the most well-known theaters throughout history.…

“Nobody seems to know how television is going to affect radio, movies, love, housekeeping, or the church, but it has definitely revived vaudeville” (thinkexist.com). Edgar Bergen’s statement concisely describes how vaudeville has returned in the modern era. It is ironic that television, which was partly responsible for the disappearance of vaudeville in its original form, has now played a role in the return of vaudeville. However, many television viewers do not realize this because vaudeville was popular nearly a century ago. Modern viewers may not even be aware that such a thing as vaudeville ever existed. Nevertheless, vaudeville was one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the United States after the Civil War and into the early twentieth century. Despite meeting its downfall as a result of the rise of cinema and radio, vaudeville has returned to modern viewers in the form of sketch-comedy television.…

It took until high school for me to realize that I wanted to have a career in acting. I did not have the confidence before then to allow myself to think that it was even a possibility. As soon as I was able to admit it to myself, I knew that I had to start taking it seriously and pushing myself to become better. Now that I am certain of what path I want to go down, I have to work hard to improve myself in order to grow stronger.…
When I was a child, my mother noticed that I was full of too much energy for her to handle, so she sent me to an after-school theatre program at my elementary school. This was groundbreaking for me. Being the middle-child often means that you are never really the center of attention. So theatre was my salvation because I could capture the attention of an entire audience, I could make people listen to me. I had this incredible rush pulse through my blood as I stood in front of people who were paying attention, who were interested in what I was going to say next. Unfortunately, I think it is a common problem in our society for a child to feel like no cares, like they are entirely alone. I think theatre saves us from that, at least it does for me. I was never really…
