    4. How does the poet describe King Arthur? Does he remind you of anyone you know or have known? The poet describes King Arthur as “Britain’s Greatest Leader, The Legendary King Arthur. The poet says in the text “And when this Britain was founded by this great hero, bold men loving strife bred therein, and may a time they wrought destruction. More strange things have happened in this land since these days than in any other that I know, but of all the British kings that built here, Arthur was ever the most courteous , as I have heard tell. “The poet is describing what an incredible king, Arthur is and what a remarkable leader is. King Arthur actually reminds me of Theseus from our last story “The Knights Tale “because they both are kind of similar. They are similar in the way that King Arthur is a legendary British Leader and Theseus was an iconic hero they both are highly powerful and everybody thinks of them as a great leader and both of them are Kings, Arthur of Britain and Theseus of Thebes.…

Beowulf eventually becomes king and is growing old when a dragon attacks. The dragon attacks to seek vengeance because of the disturbance of his hoard of treasure. The dragon kills many in the kingdom which angers Beowulf and he is forced to seek vengeance even though his old age. This battle Beowulf is weary of due to his old age and the power of his enemy but still seeks vengeance for his people due to honor. This shows in Anglo-Saxon culture that risking your life for the greater good of the kingdom and for vengeance was rather common and endorsed for the pride of the individual and the kingdom they were a part of. In this battle Beowulf gets hurt pretty badly when the dragon bites him and needs help from his followers he brought along. Only one remains while the others flee and the two end up killing the dragon. Beowulf dies and he doesn't have any heirs to the throne so passes it onto his only follower who remained. This shows the importance of loyalty in Anglo-Saxon culture because he was the only follower to remain while the others fled which then rewarded him with becoming king while the others would never be allowed back in the kingdom for abandoning their…

Mordred and Sir Aggravayne setting up a trap with twelve other knights to catch Sir Lancelot having an affair with Queen Guinevere. Another similarity between the two stories is that Mordred is the only one alive after he and the knights fight Lancelot. Sir Lancelot is warned of the pitfall set up by the knights, after being warned he became nervous. His nervousness could signify that he was scared of Mordred. Mordred is mentioned, along with Aggravayne and twelve other knights, as a good knight showing that Mordred was virtuous. This version of the legend is unique because it does not mention the discussion about Sir Lancelot between Mordred and Aggravayne to King Arthur and it does not mention the deliverance of the news by Mordred to King…

In one point in the story, Sir Bors, Sir Percivale, and Sir Galahad, board a ship after taking the advice of a young noblewoman, Sir Percivale's sister. This ship is a magical relic from centuries before and contains a sword that provides its wielder with superhuman abilities. The supernatural elements involved in the episode are qualities of romance. It is evident that the sword has mystical powers because it is stated that due to a bone on the hill "no hand that ever held it should weary or receive an injury" (409). Along with the supernatural, Medieval Romance typically portrays the conflict between "good' and "evil". Naturally, the forces of good are of pure heart, whereas the evil forces serve only to corrupt. Malory uses conflicts of good and evil to stress that virtue will triumph over sinful ways. One case of this is when Sir Galahad travels to the Maiden's castle and vows to "change their evil customs" (373). Sir Galahad, who is considered the most noble knight, proceeds to remove from power the seven knights…

Returning home to visit his mother he comes across the Fisher King, who invites him to stay at his castle. While there he witnesses a strange procession in which young men and women carry magnificent objects from one chamber to another. First comes a young man carrying a bleeding lance, then two boys carrying candelabra. Finally, a beautiful young girl emerges bearing an elaborately decorated graal, or "grail", passing before him at each course of the meal. Perceval, who had been warned against talking too much, remains silent through all of this and wakes up the next morning alone. He finds his mother is dead, then Arthur asks him to return to court. But before long, a loathly lady enters the court and admonishes Perceval for failing to ask his host whom the grail served and why the lance bled, as the appropriate question would have healed the wounded king.…

Our King did however have many qualities as a child that were overlooked by his family. He was curious, brave, and loyal. The only one who ever appreciated and accepted Arthur for who he really was, was Merlyn. When Arthur was young, he wanted to become a squire when he grew up, but Merlyn believed in having a good education and wouldn’t allow that to happen. When Merlyn would tutor Arthur, Arthur would ask lots of questions. He was always striving to know more. Merlyn was loved by the family. When he had told everyone that he was leaving because the children didn’t need to be tutored anymore, Arthur had said his goodbyes in a depressing way and Sir Ector had said, “I think you’re a useful chap whatever happens. You just stay and teach me, or be the librarian or something. Don’t you leave an old man alone, after the children have flown” (White…

The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is the most powerful and enduring in the western world. King Arthur, Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot did not really exist, both their names conjure up a romantic image of gallant knights in shining armor, elegant ladies in medieval castles, heroic quests of the Holy Grail in a world of honor and romance, and the court of Camelot at the center of a royal and mystical Britain. The Arthurian legend has existed for over a thousand years and is just as compelling today as it was in the faraway days of its early creators – Geoffrey of Monmouth, Robert de Boron, Chretien de Troyes, and most majestically: Sir Thomas Malory in his epic work, Le Mort d’Arthur. Countless writers, poets, and artists have been inspired by the life and times of King Arthur. There is also an early Welsh poem – ‘Historian Brittonum’ – from around 800, which records that’s “at that time the Saxons increased in numbers and grew in Britain. After the death of Hengist, Octa, his son, came down from the north part of Britain to the kingdom of the Kentish men, and from there are sprung the kings of the Kentish men. Then Arthur fought at that time against them in those days along with the kings of the Britons, but he was their leader in battles.” The poem lists Arthur’s battles, culminating in his twelfth at Baden Hill.…
