The purpose of this paper is to study the Panera Bread Company, and do a case analysis based upon the reading’s from the book Marketing Management: Knowledge And Skills, Eleventh Edition by Donnelly, and Peter (2013), and The 5 C’s and Strategic Marketing Basics (2013) due Oct, 22 2013 for the (MKT 6013) Market Management class at the TACOM campus of Lawrence Technological University, MI. This case involves the study of the Panera Bread company, which is a highly successful company competing for customers in the casual fast food - quick service industry. Panera Bread is more of a “niche” player, offering a different type of menu fare designed to give the public a better dining experience, with higher quality food at slightly higher prices. Panera Bread’s marque menu products are their freshly baked specialty breads available in 22 different varieties. Furthermore, Panera Breads other menu items such as: signature sandwiches, café sandwiches, baked egg soufflés, soups, hand crafted salads, kid choices, and a wide variety of beverages (Donnelly, Peter 2013), allows Panera Bread to differentiates itself from other industry peers such as: KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Yum! Brands, and Tim Horton’s (Value Line 2013), to name a few. Lastly, “Panera Bread’s distinctive menu, signature café design, inviting ambience, operating systems, and unit location strategy allowed it to compete successfully in five submarkets of the food-away-from-home industry: breakfast, lunch, daytime, “chill out time” and dinner” (Donnelly and Peter, p. 299).…

McDonalds, a powerhouse in the fast-food world has been looking to expand into the specialty coffee business and replicate its burger success into the Java Realm. Both companies are great examples of iconic brands, and have had tremendous success and market resilience. It’s no surprise, that these two companies have come to be such bitter competitors because the breakfast and specialty coffee markets are two of the fastest growing fast food segments. People are living much faster paced lives in general and are seeking ways to combine breakfast and coffee on the go. The question remains, who will ultimately win out in the specialty coffee war? I will adopt Sun Tzu principles from the Art of War, to show how Starbucks has built a superior offense and is similarly well fortified in securing its number one marketshare position.…

I have chosen SUBWAY® as an Multi-National Company for my assignment. Subway was opened by Fred DeLuca at the age of seventeen in 1965 with the help of a friend, Dr.Peter Buck, who invested $1000 in his first sandwich shop which was named Pete’s Super Submarine which was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut which was meant to fund his dreams of becoming a doctor. He set a goal of having 32 stores in 10 years but by 1964, they had only 16 stores. They realized that they would not be able to reach their goal in time therefore they started franchising their sandwich shop as SUBWAY®. SUBWAY® today is the largest sandwich shop in the world consisting of over 34,000 stores in 97 countries whose aim is to provide their consumers with fast and nutritious meals that are indented for all ages. The company has since grown into a multi-billion dollar business offering over 2 million different sandwich combinations which are served at 2,800 per minute which is equivalent to wrapping around the planet 6 times in a year.
