(Mauritius Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) * History of MSPCA: The MSPCA was created on 21 November 1958 with Dr. the Rt. Hon Honorable Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, GCMC, P.C as Founder President and Dr. Jalal Uddeen Shuja as Honorary Secretary. The first members were the 28 persons who met on 21 November 1958 at the Park Hotel, Curepipe to approve the draft constitution and establish the Society. The first meeting of the MSPCA Council was held on 27 April 1959 at Reduit in the Presence of the Patron, His Excellency Sir Robert Scott, KCMG, Governor of Mauritius. The MSPCA was incorporated by Act of Parliament (No. 3 of 1971) on 28 March 1971 with the following as main objectives:- * To promote kindness and to prevent or suppress cruelty to animals * To organize the catching and the disposal of stray dogs * To do all such Lawful acts as the Society may consider being conductive or incidental to the attainment of the aforesaid objectives. * Membership of the Society is open to any persons interested in the objectives of the Society. * Activities carried out:
* MSPCA organizes adoption day where people can adopt any animals they like and take all their responsibilities such as healthcare, nutrition, shelter, etc. * People can also donate on that day as it enables the MSPCA to take care of other animals who are in misery and who are subjected to cruelty of human beings. * Sensitization programs on radio * - Sterilizations are done 2 or 3 times a week in the 3 hospitals of MSPCA. * Organizes Dog Show where people learn to train their dogs and take better care of them. People also come to watch shows where the MSPCA shows the importance of dogs in our lives and tell people not to hurt them. * Helps people to find their lost animals all around the country.
