Aim: In science we did an experiment about elephant skin, it was about if elephants cool down quicker when wet or dry.
Equipment: 2 thermometers and beakers, hot water (to put inside of the beaker), tap water (to wet the cotton), pen, paper, ruler and a rubber (this is for your graph and data)
Method: first get two beakers then wrap one in cotton wool and wet it with a tap water temperature representing the water an elephant would spray on its self to cool down , then wrap one in cotton wool and then leave it dry, the cotton wool emulates (emulate just means to copy) the elephants skin. Then put water in both of the beakers make sure the water is put inside the beakers at the same time and make sure you put the same amount of water In the beakers, why? IT WILL MAKE IT A FAIR TEST.
Place 1 thermometer in each beaker and measure the temperatures each minute but make sure you record the data, look at the results on the thermometer twice, after workout the average by adding the data in each column and dividing it by the number of times you recorded the data in each column, if you don’t understand raise your hand and tell the teacher, work with a partner or a group of three, good luck. Read it all to make sure you understand and to make sure you are doing the test right.

Independent variable: the conditions of the cottons wrapped around the beaker.
Dependent variable: temperature in both the beakers covered in cotton.
Control variable: The amount of water inside the beakers, the amount of the cotton wrapped around the beakers, the room conditions and water temperature at the beginning of the test.

Conclusion: we found out that elephants dried quicker when their skin is because the water in the skin cools it down so the water basically act like sweat

The purpose of this experiment is to design and conduct a basic scientific experiment, identify and control variables. Some other objectives that we learned is to write a formal hypothesis, identify the basic and integrated process skills of science that were used in this experiment. Also, we will learned the effects of temperature on goldfish respiration. This experiment will be conducted with four students , one goldfish, thermometer, a stop watch, and a beaker. Our results showed that the fish temperature increased and the fish breathing slowed down.…

I see that you decided to read this, let’s hear some more cool facts about African Elephants. An African Elephant's trunk is about seven feet (two meters) long! Since African elephants live where the sun is usually blazing hot, they use their trunks to help them keep cool. First they squirt a trunkful of cool water over their bodies. Then they often follow that with a sprinkling of dust to create a protective layer of dirt on their skin. African Elephants pick up and spray dust…

An elephant has many distinct features including its ears, its trunk and its skin. Elephant ears have thick bases with thin tips. The ear flaps contain numerous blood vessels called capillaries. Warm blood flows into the capillaries, helping to lose excess body heat into the environment. This occurs when the ears are still, and the animal can enhance the effect by flapping them. Elephants are capable of hearing at low frequencies. The trunk is a fusion of the nose and the upper lip. The trunk is elongated and specialized to…

    Asian Elephant

Asian elephants live in South and South East Asia in rainforest and woodland areas and migrate to avoid the monsoon season. Asian elephants are herbivores and can consume 330 pounds of food per day and drink up to 30 gallons of water. Asian elephants are social creatures and are born into female herds where the eldest female also known as the matriarch is the leader. Female elephants in the herd share the responsibility of raising the calves and are known to adopt orphan elephants if the mother dies. While female elephants stay with the herd from the time they are born until they die, the males leave when they reach adolescence at approximately age sixteen. The adolescent Asian elephants leave the herd to join male herds of the same age and only return to the female herd during mating season and at times during feeding. At the age of ten the female elephant is able to give birth to a single calf at a time and the gestation period is approximately twenty-two months. Asian elephants live up to seventy years, measure up to ten feet, and weigh up to five and a half tons. As the biggest mammals on land predatory animals minimally threaten the elephants, yet the Asian elephant is an endangered species. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a leading conservation organization estimates the Asian elephant population to be between “35,000 to 50,000” left in the wild. Asian Elephants are an endangered species because of poaching, habitat destruction, and elephant-human conflict.…

In the present day there exists two species of elephants. These two species have many relatives that have come before them and died out. Several of these species are Paleomastodon, Deinotherium, Gompotherium, Primelephas which is a direct ancestor to the modern day elephant, Stegadon, American mastodon, and wooly mammoth. All of these species are considered Proboscidea which are mammals that have trunks “proboscidea encompasses the trunked mammals” (J.D. Illiger). Within the probosciedea family there consists the elpephantidea, which elephants would be considered. There are many different types of elephants due to where the species was located and the types of plants in which they ate.…
