Why I Believe Mt. Dew Is Sent From God,
Whereas Coke Is A Spawn From Satan.
Dr. Pepper. Mug Root Beer. Sierra Mist. Ruby Red Squirt. Mt. Dew. Do any of these names sound familiar to you? Of course they do! These are just a few of the very famous Cola brand—Pepsi. Pepsi, along with its rival, Coke have been in a raging duel for years, competing at which drink is really the best. Coke was established in 1886, whereas Pepsi came into action in 1906. When I say Pepsi, I am not just referring to there actual drink; I am referring to the products. Personally, I do not really enjoy the drink. However, Mt. Dew is my all time favorite soda pop in the world (that I have tasted). Mt. Dew is by far the very best! There are fewer restaurants that serve Pepsi. I think that all fast food restaurant, as well as sit down restaurant, should serve only Pepsi products. Imagine that you have just got off a ten-hour shift at work. You have been standing on your feet most of the day. Your job mainly consists of manual labor. You’re tired, sweaty and really need a good drink of refreshment. You can’t wait until you get home because you’re so parched. You decide to go through the drive thru of the nearest fast food restaurant. As you’re driving, you see an AM/PM gas station and food mart. Your mouth gets so watery just staring at the big picture of a large cup of Pepsi that is shown on the outside of the building. You know without a shadow of a doubt that there are Pepsi products just yards away. However, you are so exhausted that you do not even want to get out of your car because you know you would not have the energy to make it back to your car. You decide just to go through the nearest fast food drive thru. You pull into the first one you see. It just happens to be a McDonalds. You quickly weave into the drive thru pulling up to the screen. You look at the beverages and to no avail you see that they only have bland, old coke products. The

Having said that, there is still a point where price is not the issue but taste. Some people swear by the taste in this loyal brand market. These two corporations have concentrated on cultivating brand management through applicable advertising, marketing campaigns. According to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, “Coca-Cola remains the best globally recognized brand across all industries for ages, while PepsiCo’s brand ranked number 26 in year 2008.” PepsiCo has been able differentiate itself from competitors by tapping into other markets like chips and healthy alternative foods. While PepsiCo is known for their soda, their expansion is clear in showing there is a need for other things being non-soda. The time for vitality comes with diversification because there are true signs of a shift in consumption. The decrease in soda consumption raises PepsiCo. has positioned it to continue to remain profitable for its shareholders.…

In the article The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food, Michael Mossfeb discusses the issues concerning the causes of obesity in America. Mossfeb gives many examples of how the different food companies use different methods to convince people to buy their products. For example, Oscar-Myer found ways to get their products into the family household by exploiting mothers that have little time to prepare meals, and children who want control of what they eat. The same problem occurs with Coca Cola. They purposefully make the price of their product low so that they can target low income families. Mossfeb strongly believe that America is obese because of the food industry.…

    Nyc Soda Ban

Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, has proposed a ban on the sale of large-sized sugar-sweetened beverages in restaurants, delis, sports arena vendors, movie theaters and food carts. This proposed ban would stop these establishments from selling sugary beverages such as sodas, sweetened teas, coffees, energy drinks and fruit drinks in sizes larger than 16 oz, with fines for failing to downsize being as high as $200. All establishments that sell bottled as well as fountain drinks would have to remove 20-oz. soft drink bottles from their shelves, and delis and restaurants that offer self-service fountains wouldn’t be able to give customers cups larger than 16 oz. The ban would not affect convenience stores or grocery stores and would not apply to diet drinks, fruit juices, and dairy-based drinks like milkshakes or alcoholic beverages. “Obesity is a nationwide problem, and all over the United States, public health officials are wringing their hands saying, ‘Oh, this is terrible,’” Mr. Bloomberg told the New York Times. “New York City is not about wringing your hands; it’s about doing something.” In defense of its products, The Coca-Cola Company stated that their beverages contain calorie information. The company also released a statement saying, “The people of New York City are much smarter than the New York City Health Department believes; we are transparent with our consumers. They can see exactly how many calories are in every beverage we serve…New Yorkers expect and deserve better than this. They can make their own choices about the beverages they purchase.”…

I am currently a student at Delphos Jefferson Senior High School, and we recently read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser in our senior English class. It is a nonfiction novel that discusses the dark side of American fast food. As we’ve been reading, I’ve realized that a large amount of students at Jefferson Senior High drink soda purchased at school-offered vending machines. While these students are young adults and can make their own health related decisions, our responsibility as a school is to ensure that students receive healthy treatment. I understand that soda machines offered in our school are under the circumstances of corporate advertising; a practice that grants our school extra money towards general funds.…

    Aspartame

“Diet Coke does not contain nasty chemicals. It contains lovely and delicious carbonation, caffeine, and aspartame. What's unnatural about that?” Meg Cabot. This chapter was based on Power and Wealth. The article that I did my paper was about Aspartame. These two subjects connect because the individuals who drink the Diet Coke are getting fooled by the big companies that are selling it to them. The power elite are selling false hopes and false products, so people will buy their inventory, which in turn only profits the companies, and give them more substantial power. People in this country have strayed from what Mother Nature provides as sweet and delightful. The consumption of fruits was once gratifying enough to quench the curiosity of the sweet tooth without consequence. Nowadays people don’t have the time to eat organic foods and instead opted for the convenience of mass-produced, heavily processed and nutrient deprived fast foods and beverages. Most of these factory produced food products today are extremely sugary. That sugariness is a contributing factor to metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity and tooth decay. This all leads to one ingredient and that ingredient is artificial sweeteners.…

The first shots of the Revolution rang out April 19 1775 at Lexington green. Reports say the British fired first killing eight patriots. I believe these reports to be true. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this, since none of us were there, no one can be certain on who fired first. Evidence shows the British fired first. I think based on the evidence provided it was very easy to see the British were the first to fire the shot of the revolution.…

Throughout its enduring reign as an industry leader, Coca-Cola has acquired a sufficient amount of its revenue from CSD sales. According to Dr.Harber (2010), “ New federal nutrition guidelines, issued in 2005, identified regular CSDs as the largest source of obesity-causing sugars in the American diet”. Schools in New York City, throughout California, and elsewhere banned the sales of soft drinks on their premises(Dr.Harber, 2010). This was a tremendous issue that threatened the success of future sales of soft drinks all over the region. The United States obesity rate has continued to rise over the years and more people are now becoming involved in trying to eat and drink healthier. Companies such as McDonalds and Wendys have observed this fact and now offer several healthy items on their menu. Furthermore, the widespread linkage of CSDs with obesity and other health-related concerns was hard to disperse from people’s minds (Dr.Harber, 2010). Coca-Cola knew something had to be done, which led to the search for alternative beverages.…

    The Alcoholic Republic

The colonization of America brought about many new ways of life: new living conditions, new skills to be learned, and new land to explore and settle. Relations with the natives provided food and basic skill sets, and it also paved the way for new colonists arriving in such a foreign land. However, life for colonists coming to settle America was no vacation. Depending on your family’s background and where you decided to settle, daily life was an adventure. In Virginia, rapscallions, who had never worked a day in their life, squandered their days drinking and gambling. New Hampshire set up actual town squares; churches, schools, town halls. Soon enough, however, a similar theme started to become more and more apparent as well as more and more concerning. Alcohol and excessive drinking became extremely prevalent in early Americans’ lives. There are many factors that led to such alcoholism, and many factors that led into the increasing numbers of Americans to embrace temperance. Taverns were believed, by the lower classes, to be nurseries of freedom. By the upper classes, they were believed to be seedbeds for rowdy, drunk, and subordinate colonists. Again, due to many factors, alcoholism witnessed an excessive peak as well as harsh opposition from temperance groups.…

In the year 1999, a meeting took place at the Minneapolis headquarters of Pillsbury. The guest list of the meeting included CEO’s and presidents of America’s largest food companies like Nestlé, Kraft, Nabisco, General Mills, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola and Mars. The CEO’s and company presidents came together to discuss the issue of America’s emerging obesity problem and how to deal with the problem. They came to a conclusion that people were blaming their products for the obesity epidemic in the country. The salt, sugar and fat content in their products were way too high and were causing Obesity-related conditions like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. These conditions are some of the leading causes of preventable death. According to the article, “The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food” in the New York Times, “More than half of American adults were now considered overweight, with nearly one-quarter of the adult population — 40 million people — clinically defined as obese. Among children, the rates had more than doubled since 1980, and the number of kids considered obese had shot past 12 million”. The presidents were not able to come to a…

    Fast Food Nation

One doesn't need to be a Rhodes scholar to figure out that Eric Schlosser, in his book Fast Food Nation, has a bone to pick with the way America eats. The name of the book alone, carrying with it cultural baggage, reveals that he is not a fan of the great American hamburger. If you read the book, though, you will realize that he's not half as much against the french fries that often go with that burger, although he's no particular fan of those, either. Schlosser is very much against the fast-food culture, but perhaps more against the business practices that have allowed fast food to become a way of life. In the very beginning of the book, Schlosser tells the story of a Georgia high school that had a Coke Day, sponsored by Coca-Cola (which is headquartered in Atlanta). The principal suspended a student who wore a Pepsi shirt that day. Schlosser lays the blame at Coca-Cola's feet. However, that's a logical stretch. Schlosser does admit that schools need ways to beef up budgets and programs cut by local government. But he doesn't blame the principal for denying the student's right to choose his own clothing and express himself (a far greater issue) nearly as much as he blames Coca-Cola. Schlosser seems to say that a corporation is at fault for denying the student the right of free speech, when it was really the principal who reacted that way. In fact, through much of the book, Schlosser seems to take a stance opposite that of the judge in the McDonald's obesity lawsuit. Schlosser seems to say that all of the fat and diet-caused disease in the United States is the cause of corporations producing food rather than consumers choosing to eat it.…

Karin Klein, the author of Soda’s a Problem but… has presented the most convincing argument concerning the New York soda ban compared to the other two authors. The other two authors don’t defend their opinions as well as Klein does. Klein’s argument is more persuasive seeing that it relies less on emotion and more on facts, the reasoning is more logical than the other two arguments, and due to it doing a better job of defending itself.…

McDonald’s may spend billions of dollars every year on advertising, but it is the consumer that chooses to walk into one of their stores, pay the cashier, and sit down for a dose of cholesterol and heart disease. At no time were they held at gunpoint and forced to do anything. While advertising has positive and negative effects, such as informing the public or manipulating consumers, advertising is a spread of ideas and information. It provides choices; it is the responsibility of the consumer to deal with the consequences.…
