Introduction
Looking back at the historical development of corporations and firms, one can find that these organizations are once created by men (Rao et. Al, 1999). Nowadays, more and more women become very successful in the organizations and they work hard to act at the high management levels in the corporations. In spite of it, the proportion of women leaders in the organizations is relatively low than men leaders. Then it has emerged a statement that “women must adopt male characteristics to succeed. The purpose of his report is to analyze “must women adopt male characteristics to succeed?”
Discussion on Women Reality
Before talking about women success in the organizations, it is necessary to define the current reality for women in the corporations and society. In 1970s, feminist movement has largely improved the social positions of women both outside and within the working environment (Turner, 2003). In spite of it, women also keep the disadvantaged sex in the corporations or firms because sometimes it is difficult for women to balance work-life issues (Acker,, 1990). Today, more and more women can work in the organizations and they are given more opportunities to participate in many managerial occupations. Related evidence also shows that women have recently been advanced to senior positions in large organizations (Kawakami; White and Langer, 2000). Nevertheless, the number of female top-rank directors remains unproportionately low. In addition, related institutions have made surveyed that 96% of executives in the world corporations are male (Powell and Graves, 2003). Therefore, women reality for success is that the proportion for women leaders is low.
