9 months, 40 weeks, 280 days. A woman has to bear the pain, the weight of a growing child in her womb for a total of 9 months, something a man would never be able to cope with both physically and mentally, so why does a woman not have the right to choose? 18 years, 940 weeks, 6575 days. A mother has to bear sleepless nights, the ongoing tantrums of teenagers and has to support and care for the child, alone in most cases, so why does a woman not have the right to choose?
There are 2.0 million ‘lone parents with dependent children’ in the UK and 91% of them are ‘single mothers with their dependent children’. These single mothers tend to live in poverty as they find it hard to balance work with childcare. Imagine how hard life must be on these parents and their …show more content…
children. Imagine the pain the mother must go through watching her children grow up in this state. Imagine the regret and agony in her heart. If she had the right to choose there would not be ‘2.4 million children’ living in poverty in one of the most economically developed countries in the world. Why didn’t she have the right to choose?
The main problem is society. The stigma surrounding abortion is still lurking around in our society even though we live in a modern era and we have left all those outdated beliefs behind. If we can leave those beliefs behind then why can’t a woman choose what to do with her child? We should change our mentality and support these parents as this is not an easy choice for them, they are looking at what kind of life this child will lead in the future and not the present. MY LIFE, MY CHOICE
Rape, incest, teenage pregnancy. What would you do in these situations? Would you continue your pregnancy or terminate it? Would you want the lifelong reminder in the form of that child of those traumatic moments you had to endure?
There were around ‘22,116 reported rapes in 2014’ alone, in which nearly all of them the victims were women.
In some cases the victim falls pregnant, what is she supposed to do next? Either have an abortion or continue with the pregnancy and after birth give the child up for adoption. ‘Adoption is never an alternative for abortion’. What if that child never gets adopted as they will have that stigma following them of being a child born as a consequence of a rape? That mother will always blame herself, for the mistake committed by a man she never knew. The man who had his pleasure and left her, the victim to pick up all the pieces.
Freedom. One of the essential things a woman needs in her life is freedom. Children require lots of attention, care, emotional and physical support from their parents 24/7, so what spare time does that leave for the parents? As the world is developing, so is people’s mentality and women now want to stand in the same position as men. They want to compete and earn the same as men and possibly do better than them, however this is not possible if they have children weighing them down, this is why nearly ‘88% of pregnancies are terminated in their early
stages.’
Abortion is not a health risking procedure but rather it is a quick and simple procedure that in the eyes of many women who have undergone is pain free. There were nearly ‘190,972 abortions’ using this procedure then what is holding other women back? As the world is developing so should our mindset and we should support abortion and look at it from the point of view of that mother. Remember, choosing to terminate your child’s life is never an easy choice but you have to look at the circumstances and assess whether you would be able to do the child justice and provide it with the life it deserves. Every woman has the right to choose what happens to her baby as the birth of that child is going to dramatically change her life and her body; therefore she is the only person who has the right to choose what happens next.
