my dream of pakistan
Some scholar said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I believe in it so I believe in beauty of my dreams. I have dreams for my beloved motherland Pakistan. I have dreams for it because I am daughter of this soil, I enjoy the soothing breeze of its mountains, I sit under its shady tress, I drink the cool and sweet water of its springs, it loves me like a mother and I love it too much. Before I discuss my dreams, first let’s talk about today’s Pakistan. Today in Pakistan, our countrymen are facing a lot of problems. These problems include terrorism, racism, provincialism, fanaticism, extremism and many more isms. All these tendencies which fan the forces of separatism and disruption would be eliminated if the main problem to these social evils would be put down. In order to cure the disease, we need a diagnosis and I will also try to find the root cause of these illnesses. The main problems we are facing today are ignorance, disunity and poverty. Come let’s talk about them and then the solutions to them.
IGNORANCE! Ignorance is the basic mistake done from past fifty years when the government should have spent money on education for all. Do you know why there was ignorance? It was because the people were uneducated. They didn’t have manners and the big power countries of the world were laughing on them.Pakistan of my dreams is filled up with the best scholars of the world and everyone is well educated. Their chant is always the same and that is “Education is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world”. I can see in my dream that none of the students has to leave the school because of teachers’ strict behaviour. Schools, colleges and universities are providing education not just working as degree issuing machines. People in the villages have best educational institutions on their door-step. Now there is no brain drain, rather students from different parts of the world come to Pakistan for education. We have

Education is a universal, fundamental human right, recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and reaffirmed in international human rights conventions. In this era of technology, advancement and globalization, education is the key to success and peace. Education is considered as the cheapest defense of a nation. But the worst condition of education in Pakistan reflects the fact that it is unable to defend its own sector. Though 62 years have passed and 23 policies and action plans have been introduced yet the educational sector is waiting for an effective educational reforms. With respect to Human Development Index, Pakistan has been placed by UNDP at 136th position, lower than some of its regional neighbors like Sri Lanka, Maldives, India and Myanmar mainly due to its low literacy rate and low primary level enrolment. In different reports the Ministry of Education claimed that literacy in Pakistan is over 50%, but open sources disagree with it and they say that it is merely 35%. Ratio of budget indicates the level of importance given by a nation to the education. Historically, Pakistan has been spending less on education, as compared to other countries in the region. Pakistan spends less than 2% of its GDP on education which is less than Iran, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives the neighboring countries of Pakistan, the world standard stands at 5% of the GDP. With such non serious attitude towards Education, there remains a dearth of well educated and skillful individuals. Among the SAARC Nations, Pakistan is at the sixth and at the 159th position among the 174 World countries.…

Since the birth of Pakistan every government has appealed for national unity. Pakistan has run into crisis after crises, each graver than the preceding and unity has eluded us despite all the fervent appeals made. There must be serious reasons why crises should exist in abundance and not unity. These reasons need to be examined. Our country has been threatened by two sorts of crises-a general one affecting the world, but particularly Asia; and the other casting its gloom over the sub-continent. There is an obvious connection between them. Of whatever sorts the crisis may be and whether simple or manifold, the situation has, to be understood properly. The world in which we live is moving towards a culmination, which might be a universal catastrophe. It will not be just another Dien Bien Phu. This is the difference between Dien Bien Phu and the present crisis, between 1954 and 1968. We arc on the edge of a precipice. Below lies the valley of death. Must we let ourselves fall into it consciously by marching ahead to disaster or should we not draw back? There is no alternative but to pull hack. This does not entail a loss of prestige. It only saves this beautiful world from senseless destruction. Pakistan is caught in a whirlwind. As we look back on the twenty years of our existence, we find a dangerous tendency for international and subcontinental problems to get fused together. To maintain the view that crisis is the order of the day, a natural phenomenon of this restless age, is pointless. The prevailing demoniacal trend requires to be reversed. Ours is not the only country caught in the vicious circle of crises. Many countries have been able to settle similar problems and move on with added strength to other matters. The strength to move forward comes from the resolution of basic internal issues. Unlike many…

There is a crisis of national integration in Pakistan since its birth. It is the victim of poor national integration. Lack of integration in Pakistan is fundamental problem and it has been subjected to comment by intellectuals in the country. This has been hitting the head lines of the newspaper. Due to lack of national integration in the country, Pakistan has been pushed to a vicious circle. It has made Pakistan a sorry state of affairs, and a pivot of terrorist's activities. That has deepened the state of instability and vulnerability to a total break down of state apparatus. This was not the case at first. This nation was the consequence of unity and integrity and its basis Islam. The Quid-i-Azam the father of nation gave the motto to All Indian Muslim League running on in the terms of faith, unity and discipline it has been rather unfortunate that after the death of Quid-i-Azam, the country was left desolate. The national integration was thrown out of the national dictionary. At this rate, income inequalities, social injustice, political clouts and other evils raised their heads. All of that made national integration fragile. Moreover the present condition of the country is not better as well as it should be. It can be considered as a slip floating on the waves and being tossed directionless. There is lack of consensus on vital national issues in Pakistan. Therefore, provinces hatred does not show the sign of diminution. Sindh, Khyber Pukhtoon Khawa and Balochistan accuse Punjab to be the exploiter for certain reasons, people at federating units have misgivings due to certain issues. Sindh, Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa and Balouchistan do not show an iota of agreement to the construction of Kalabagh Dam. The provinces have dissension between them on NFC award. They have different view points to the division of resources from divisible bridge. There are also certain ifs and buts and hurdles which stand…

Every year the government of Pakistan publishes some report or the other about education. If not specifically about education, at least the Economic Survey of Pakistan, carries a chapter on education. These reports confess that the literacy rate is low, the rate of participation in education at all levels is low and the country is spending too little in this area. Then there one brave promises about the future such as the achievement of hundred percent literacy and increasing the spending on education which has been hovering around 2 percent of the GNP since 1995 to at least 4 percent and so on. Not much is done, though increases in the number of schools, universities and religious seminaries (madrassas) is recorded. The private sector mints millions of rupees and thousands of graduates throng the market not getting the jobs they aspired to. The field of education is a graveyard of these aspirations. The following indicators point grimly to where Pakistan stands in South Asia.…

Pakistan emerged as a separate homeland for Muslims by assiduous hard work and enormous sacrifices of Muslims. The pioneers of Pakistan movement dreamed of a state that could offer a peaceful milieu for free exercise of religion and attainment of one’s rights. It is highly disheartening to see the state crippled by the ethnic conflicts, religious extremism, terrorism and dissension between the public and government. The article, “Whither Pakistan? A five-year forecast”, was published on June 3, 2009 but it also talks about the current situation of Pakistan. It was published in the magazine “Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists” at the time when Pakistani Army was fighting against Taliban in the northern areas. The author of this article is Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy who is a nuclear physicist, political defense analyst and also ranked among global top hundred thinkers. He got his Doctorate degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has since then continued his research in Particle physics. Besides this he is a social activist, political writer and an ardent supporter of the peaceful use of Pakistan’s nuclear assets (Aik Din Geo ke Saath). The article annotates that Pakistan needs to wipe out the terrorist forces completely and focus on the real issues such as unemployment and economic downturn. It also warns of the consequences that the country might face if reform does not take place promptly. Although, Pervez Hoodbhoy progressively develops his arguments, effectively uses various literary devices to fulfill his purpose towards the targeted audience and sincerely urges the reader to think that a terror-free Pakistan fulfilling the real needs of its citizens is indispensible, however, he uses biased generalizations, provides fallacious supports for his assumptions, presents only the western perspective of Pakistani politics and gives somewhat reductionist solution for the problem.…
