By concluding the first segment of my journey, earning my associate degree with honors, I successfully set an example for my children concerning hard work, and reward as well as the benefits of a formal education. As I am now nearing the end of the next segment of my journey, achieving my bachelor degree from California California State University, Dominguez Hills in Liberal Studies (mathematics option), I feel an enormous sense of accomplishment on a more personal level. The top priority in my life has always been my family. This includes my spouse, children, sibling, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Other priorities in my life include helping others, exploring the world, and an addiction to learning. Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

The next part of my journey consists of going to medical school, getting an internship, as well as completing residency afterward. The medical school will last up to 4 years with the internship combined into the last 2 years of being in medical school. Internship and residency combined are usually between 3 to 8 years (How to Become a Physician or Surgeon). All states require physicians and surgeons to be licensed. To qualify for a license, I must graduate from an accredited medical school, complete residency training in a specialty that I choose, and pass written and practical exams. There are many different graduate schools that are really great but the three that I have real interests for are PITT School of Medicine, Oregon Health Science…

I once had a crazy college professor who made us write a paper and put music to it. I wrote about how my wife was like my new kitchen trash can and played chords on my piano to enhance the words I spoke. My teacher liked it. I liked doing it. And, I think my wife still likes me after doing it too. The assignment, in both the way it was given and how I went about doing it, reflects two ways that embody my personal educational philosophy.…

According to Michelle Akers, “I think the challenge is, to take difficult and painful times and turn them into something beneficial, something that makes you grow.” Just like every human being, I have had my fair share of challenges to face. My parents were born and raised in Mexico. Being from the type of family both my parents had, education was not an option and no importance was taken toward it. They both dropped out of high school and began to work in factories to help their families with financial problems. They realized how hard it was to earn a living and to maintain a family without a proper education. When I was four years old and my sister was nine, my parents made the decision to send us to Brownsville, TX for a proper American education.…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

Once I started in the public school system, 10 years later, I was placed, after one year, teaching keyboarding skills and basic Microsoft office skills to middle school kids. This led to me creating a course in Introduction to Mass Communications for middle school students.…
