Vanessa Reyes Preciado: Personal Statement
Vanessa Reyes Preciado Personal Statement Many often complain that the low salary for teaching makes it an unsuitable career option. But in my opinion, teachers work because they care more about their kids and the impact they hope to have on their lives than they do about the money. It is a teacher's responsibility to teach children on new subjects in a way that is helpful and clear to all of the students while also acting as a positive role model for them. Teachers also have to handle a wide range of learning requirements and behaviors, in addition to long hours, heavy workloads, and hard work evenings. However, I would be more than happy to endure the difficulties that come with being a teacher because I would feel prideful in being able …show more content…
Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years. I primarily gained adaptability and communication skills as I assisted many students from different age groups. My background in communication and adaptability has provided me with a deeper understanding of what students need to succeed and the difficulties students encounter in their daily learning. As a student intern, I also gained lesson planning and time management skills as I assisted the AVID instructors with their lesson plans and

So originally I did not pursue the idea of nursing, I actually went into college thinking I was going to be a local high school teacher and wrestling coach, so I went and got my degree in Art Education, but while I was in college, I started working as a transport orderly at San Jose Medical Center before it closed, then went to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where I started working as an Emergency Room clerk, and moved up to an Emergency Room Technician and loved the hands on with the patients. This is where I decided that teaching may wait till I retire from nursing, and nursing will become my career.…

I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

I have known that I wanted to work with children since I was a young child myself. Before the age of ten, I thought I might be a teacher. As I enjoyed math and science, several of my aunts, nurses themselves, encouraged me to consider nursing. As a sibling of a disabled child, I was probably exposed to more medical knowledge than average, and I took my first CPR class when I was eight years old. I liked the nurses and therapists that worked with my sister, but I also had respect for the teachers that worked so tirelessly with her.…

The first graduate skill that I will be looking at is Working with Others. I believe that in a school environment, it is essential to have a good relationship with other adults. This is especially true if you are working with a Teaching Assistant. This is because they have an important role within the teaching team. With their knowledge and experience, they contribute to planning, support, observations and reflection.…

In my recent interview with my fellow education major Daniela Guzman, we discussed many different topics including the factors that lead us to deciding to go into the teaching profession. The questions we came up with ranged from teachers that had an influence on us to how we would like to decorate our classrooms. Daniela and I each wish to teach a different grade so the answers each of us gave were the same in many ways but also had their own personal touch.…

After volunteering in my children’s classrooms for years, I decided I would go to school to at least become a teacher’s aid. At the time I had met a teacher, Mrs. Zinno I told her my plans of becoming a teachers aid, she suggested that if I was going to go back to school for two years just to be an aid, why not go for another two years and become a teacher. I did alternative certification to become a paraprofessional or a teacher’s aide. When I completed my paraprofessional certification I still felt that it was just not enough. The words of Mrs. Zinno stuck in my head, I knew if I could complete this I could keep going; I set my goals higher. I attended Tarrant County College and received my Associates Degree; then I thought, “why stop here?” So, I continued to work on an Associates in Education.…

However, an occupation does not describe everything about me or the path I have taken to get me to where I am today. I wish to teach for a few years in different schools in the New York City Educational System. I also wish to compare the different types of Bilingual Education Programs in New York City and decide the type of program I want to be a part of. I believe that I can make a difference in the New York City Educational System by contributing to the instruction of newly arrivals. In two semesters, I will begin student teaching. I am overcome with emotions to start this new phase in my life because everything that I have is due to never giving up. I was doing a project on Winston Churchill in my 10th grade social studies class when I came across one of his most famous quotes, “When you are going through hell, keep on going. Never, never, never, give up.” Since the age of sixteen, I have always worked. I am grateful to have started working at a young age because it has taught me several valuable lessons. I learned how to manage my time and how to be responsible. Having to work at a young age also allowed for me to be able to balance a job and still do well in school. Not to mention the experience that I gained as a tutor, mentor and counselor. As a junior at CCNY, I am enrolled as a full-time student and work as a customer service representative for an airport service…

According to a nursing enthusiast, “Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and care without a prescription” (Saintsbury). Instead of majoring in teaching, I should major in nursing. Nursing is truly a rewarding and incredible career to pursue because of the praise you receive from saving lives for a living. Teaching can be rewarding, but is often not worth the stress throughout the career. The annual salary, stress and opportunities are the major positive and negative paraphernalia for these two majors.…

While closely examining the components of my career, focusing on what I found most rewarding, considering the parts that I least enjoyed, and bearing in mind what was missing, I concluded, I wanted to change careers and enter the teaching profession. Despite, the difficulties associated with this transition considering my obligations, responsibilities, and priorities at that time in my life, I began my journey of what felt like a thousand miles with a first step. The top priority in my life has always been my family. This includes my spouse, children, sibling, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Other priorities in my life include helping others, exploring the world, and an addiction to learning. Due to consideration of all these priorities, the path I chose to take was a long, slow, but steady trek. Even though, unplanned and unexpected events in my life caused my journey to take longer than originally anticipated, I have not given up; my journey has been delayed, but it has not been…
