Unitek RN Program Entrance Essay
9/10/13
Reasons Why I Want to be an RN There are many reasons why I would like to be an RN, and there are many reasons of why I should become an RN, ever since I was a child I have had the idea of being a nurse implanted in my head. Then as time went by other ideas came into play, like being a teacher or being a police officer, but being a nurse always stayed in my mind as a great career for me. I got this idea of being a nurse from my mother when I was a little kid, see my mom is a nurse, actually she is now the director of nursing at Bakersfield Heart. But when I was a kid, she went from floor nurse, to charge nurse, to director of her floor, to house supervisor, to assistant director, and now director. I can easily see her retiring as the CEO of this hospital. Now I do not know if I would want to do all of that, but I definitely see myself going from floor nurse to charge nurse, and maybe the director of the floor. The upper management just does not sound as fun to me. So originally I did not pursue the idea of nursing, I actually went into college thinking I was going to be a local high school teacher and wrestling coach, so I went and got my degree in Art Education, but while I was in college, I started working as a transport orderly at San Jose Medical Center before it closed, then went to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where I started working as an Emergency Room clerk, and moved up to an Emergency Room Technician and loved the hands on with the patients. This is where I decided that teaching may wait till I retire from nursing, and nursing will become my career. Soon as I started working side by side with our nurses in the ER I saw that this is what I should be doing, and this is what I want to be doing, so I started working on the prerequisites right then and there. I loved the compassion the nurses had for their patients, and to see the smiles that would come from these patients

I started my career in the healthcare field as a unit clerk. My primary duties were answering the telephone and call light system. After about a year, I wanted to do more so I decided to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). My duties as a CNA entailed helping patients/residents with their activities of daily living. I quickly realized that I did not want to play that particular role in the healthcare field and that I needed to do more. I applied for the licensed practical nurse program and was accepted. After graduating and passing my state board exam, I worked as a licensed practical nurse for six and a half years before applying for the associate degree nursing program for registered nurses. I was accepted and after completion my career as a registered nurse began.…

I have been interested in the nursing profession for years. Lack of experience at a younger age, perceived financial resource limitations, cross-country moves, etc. have all played a part in holding back allowing this interest turning into a reality. Now that I have had years in the retail, clinic and business pharmacy space to allow me to mature, I have educated myself about financial resources and have settled in my home of Phoenix, I feel that I am in a position to pursue becoming a registered nurse.…

During this time i joined the voulanteer morton fire department to get a grasp and sense of working under pressure while remaining calm. Alot of the times i noticed ifyou are in a flusttered sense of mind it is best to leave the situation to someone who is more capable then end up causeing the situation to get much worse possibly causeing someone to get hurt or death. For the longest time, I have known that I want to be a Nurse Practitioner. As a young kid I, would play doctor and take care of my siblings or toys and just look after them, it was not until I was in High School when I actually discovered what I wanted to do as a career. I started volunteering at our hospital Marian Regional Medical Center, where my eyes opened to the idea of actually working in the healthcare industry. My time volunteering I had acquired some knowledge of what a Registered Nurse did, I volunteered on the ICU and CCU (Intensive Care Unit, and Critical Care Unit), Med Serg., Emergency Room, Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, and Labor and Delivery floor; where I would do little task like change linen sheets, complete and make…

I began my nursing career as a licensed practical nurse soon after high school. I always knew that I wanted to become a nurse but I also needed to earn an income as soon as possible. Having a career after one year in school was something that I could handle personally and financially at the time. While in the L.P.N. program I had the opportunity to work in a local hospital as a student nurse. After graduation I took a position within the same hospital and worked there for the next 7 years. I had the opportunity to work on several units during that time, including medical/surgical, cardiac, orthopedics, mother/baby and finally the psychiatric unit. It was there that I found my niche. During that time I got…

Nursing is a second career for me. It is one I have approached gradually, over a long period of time. I might have chosen it as a first career if I had been a better student when I entered college, or had people in my life who were involved in healthcare careers when I was growing up. As it was, I had a longstanding interest in health and the human body, but nursing seemed very foreign, and the idea of touching strangers made me uncomfortable.…

Initially, I knew I wanted my career to consist of helping others, but in high school I was unsure which profession I should pursue. I decided that I wanted to become a registered nurse shortly before I enrolled at J. Sargeant Reynolds full time. I was considering becoming an elementary school teacher, a counselor or a nurse. The summer of 2013 I went to the Philippines and helped at a pregnancy clinic. I could see myself becoming a nurse after that. The following summer I started volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, which has furthered my enthusiasm for nursing.…

I chose nursing as my profession because nursing was something that had been in my family since my grandmother. I felt like I would be continuing the tradition of being in healthcare. My grandmother was a nurse aide back in the 50’s & 60’s. She told us many stories from the days when she worked in a small community hospital. Next was my aunt, she became a LPN in the early 70’s; she also told may stories about things that would happen while she was working in the same hospital. All of these stories sparked my interest in the nursing field. I started into college fresh out of high school with a goal to graduate nursing school as a registered nurse.…
