My experience
Over the summer, I took a trip to Mission Beach with my family and friends as we do every summer and Christmas break. Each year we always take a night to go to our favorite restaurant, Tower 21. The refreshing atmosphere, top-notch service, and mouth watering food is what we come back for and they never fail to meet our expectations. This last experience, however, was different than what we were expecting.

My family and I were all very ecstatic about getting dressed up and eating delicious food after our long week of burgers and hotdogs by the campfire. When we pulled up to the valet for the restaurant we were greeted with a smile and a quick valet parking process. This was not something out of the ordinary, more of something expected. As we entered the entrance of the restaurant, again, we were greeted with friendly faces that immediately sat us at our reserved table. Our waitress then came to our table and introduced herself very nicely, just as we expected. The beginning of our meal went exceptionally well. Our waitress and bus boy even had a few personal conversations with my family making us feel even more comfortable at the restaurant. But once again, this was something that we always had the pleasure of enjoying when it came to the guest service. After our appetizers were finished, that was when the whole experience changed.

Around the corner we could all see our entrees coming our way. The entrees were served with happy faces all around the table. After our waitress made sure everything had come to the table, she went back to her other tables. Each of us began to cut into our steaks in front of us. Immediately you could see disappointment on a few of my family members faces. What they expected to be a perfectly medium rare steak ended up being a medium well steak. At this moment our “experience” turned to a downward slope. My father called over the waitress to tell her about our complaint. She apologized for the over cooked steaks and had them sent

The hostess seated me, the waiter let me know the salad bar was included and all you can eat, and everything seemed fine. After I got my first round of grub from the salad bar, I noticed that people were coming over from the other side of the restaurant. I also noticed that I was seated all alone to the opposite side. Out of curiosity, I wandered over and noticed two things. First, I was the only Black patronizing this particular dining establishment at that time. Second, while I did not receive any ill treatment I had been segregated from the other…

It is bad enough they made his father stand that long on crutches, but then to try to place them at an upper table was very inconsiderate. These types of behavior are unacceptable and give our restaurants a bad name. We need to make sure the staff at this restaurant is retrained so they will operate up to the standards of our company. Hostess need to be trained on how to greet people and the table should always be cleaned after guests leave to make sure they are ready for the next guests. Guests should never be placed at a dirty table. I also suggest we do monthly audits of this restaurant to make sure they continue to follow procedures after the training. I will inform Dr. Wallace that we do not condone this type of behavior and disciplinary action will be taken towards the manager and staff of the restaurant and I will also inform him that we will be retaining all of the staff at this location. With time and hard work we will be able to get this restaurant beck to operating at the standards of our…

The atmosphere at Applebee's was very pleasant and our waiter was friendly and accommodating. We counted seven courtesies (please, thank you, your welcome, may I help you, etc.) that he said to us. Unfortunately, we did overhear another waiter making unprofessional complains about their customer. Our waiter also told us that he had been in the service industry for nine years and had been working at Applebee’s for two years. He had the most…

The ones who were able to get seated, didn’t get their food fast enough. So they were displeased. As I observed all customers were no happy. One person at each table were aggravated and it showed on their face. The workers were very nice and pleasant. They would greet and take care of everyone apparently and promptly. When I would look into each of the relationships of each table, I would learn how a son and mother got along. I saw how he cared for her and how well he took care of her. Their nonverbal messages let me know what their relationship was and gave me reassurance that there are great children out…

Third, the whole place was extremely loud. The waitress couldn’t even hear what our orders were. Last weekend, I went to Suwanee, GA to see my father and stepmother because it had recently been my stepmother's birthday. In celebration we chose to dine out at a restaurant called Gulf Coast Grill. It was the first time my family had eaten at the restaurant, but will not be the last. Once stepping inside, I knew it was going to be interesting because the restaurant had a very strong beach theme as well as a live band playing. After being told it was going to be a fifteen to twenty minute wait, I was surprised when our table was called after less than ten. The restaurant experience was already off to a good start, and only continued to get better.…

Last week, an Asian family entered the restaurant and had been seated. After initially greeting them and getting their drink orders, the family had explained how they had been at another restaurant right before they came to eat at this one. They had to leave the other restaurant because after 40 minutes had passed, no server or any staff member had acknowledged the family, as they heard the staff fight over who was going to be stuck taking their table. Instead of observing the interactions that occur in my own restaurant, I chose to go to another restaurant in the area and listen in on what was going on around me. Our server was a polite girl, most likely a college student, and Caucasian. From a server’s standpoint, she was friendly, informative, and quick with everything that we had needed. A few minutes after we had been settled in, a table was sat behind us. It was an Indian family of four; the mother, the father, and two little boys. Listening in, it was shocking to find…

The most appropriate conflict management strategy would be to avoid forcing and avoidance because they tend to result in unresolved issues/problems. Plus, satisfaction is only viewed and/or reached on one side; the other party side is ignored or overlooked. Even though this situation could have easily become a detrimental crisis; the best approach would have been to utilize the problem-solving method. That way both parties reach a collaborative resolution. “Both parties find solutions to the cause of the conflict that are satisfactory to both parties rather than to find fault or assign blame” (Whetton/Cameron, 2011).…
