My Experience At Dordt College
During my time at Dordt College, God has provided me with numerous experiences and mentors that have helped solidify my choice to pursuer a degree in Agriculture Education and the profession of an Agricultural teacher. Some of my most resent experiences that have help me develop my skills a teacher, and given be a clearer picture of how much work teaching can be. Working as a tutor in the Dordt College Academic Enrichment Center and teaching swim lessons at the All Seasons Center, have given me a clearer understanding of the responsibility of teaching Christianly and a better idea about what my future goals should be. For the past three semesters, I have had the privilege of working in the Academic Enrichment Center, helping my fellow students …show more content…
As a teacher, I must view my students image bearers of God that possess great potential to do good in the world, but who are also still wrestling with their own sinful nature. Whether I teach in Christian school or not, I must remember that my students may not understand the value of their education and require some motivation and encouragement to learn and pursue God’s calling for their lives. I may not always be able to be vocal about my faith, but I can be truthful about the positive and negative aspects of the agriculture and ask students to wrestle with ethical questions and moral issues. Through my experiences working as a tutor and teaching swim lessons, I have already had the opportunity to implement some of these ideas. I have been learning to listen intently to my students’ views and graciously accept their different opinions. I have also been able to show mercy and compassion to my students and demonstrate humility when I make mistakes and ask for their forgiveness. These are the values that I believe encompass the idea of distinct Christian teaching. For me, the description “distinctly Christian” is what I hope will be stated about me inside and outside the

Learning takes place through experience and individual study from both a teacher and a student. From a biblical prospective teaching and learning all points to God as the Creator and Sustainer of all reality. If planning with the purpose of applying biblical principles, educators should direct principles not only at the content being taught but also to the development of a biblical worldview of the students and the way they learn. In my opinion, God made all persons unique in their own special way so that they can contribute their special gifts, talents, experiences, and insights throughout society just as his son Jesus did. The bible makes it clear that God calls us to be a community in society which we all contribute our special gifts given to us (Van Brummelen, 2009). To teach means to take the lead in planning appropriate lessons catered to each individualized learning styles covering all contents in lessons by producing a variety of ways to capture the attention of students. Educators can use the appropriate tools to apply principles to essential questions, objectives, key learning activities, and classroom management strategies to determine whether lesson and unit plans lead towards the purpose that’s desire to achieve. Jesus captured the attention of many through his teachings because he taught like no other he was unique and reached people from their level of understanding through his…

When the realization that my final days of high school were vastly approaching, I began to ask myself what I would do with my life. From that point, the thoughts began to creep in of what things I could do to help better prepare myself for the future that was being pushed upon me. Seeing that I have known since a young age that I wanted to be an educator, my exploration of a summer job that would involve surrounding myself with children began. After endless hours of internet searching for the job that would best suit me, I discovered a Christian summer camp that was very much a place that would cease to leave my mind for the next few days. Days passed by and prayers were sent up when I finally came to realize that this was the job I needed. Working at a Christian summer camp would be a great job for any young person because it is a way to spread God’s word with young girls, push limits and set new goals, and it exposes the counselor to see what teachers and educators face on a day to day basis.…

One important aspect of Christian ministry is education. Dr. Michael Mitchell defines education as, “the creative process of utilizing external and internal forces to facilitate the functions of teaching and training in promoting and attaining growth and development, enabling complete individuals to comprehend, contemplate, and contribute to their community and culture.”1 The growth and development that take place as a result of education typically happen in a group setting. Those being educated submit to a process that prepares them for events that come along throughout life. In the context of Christian education, this process focuses on “producing disciples who worship Jesus and proclaim Him to the world, utilizing knowledge and competencies acquired in the processes of reconciliation, restoration, correction, and perfection.”2…

After volunteering in my children’s classrooms for years, I decided I would go to school to at least become a teacher’s aid. At the time I had met a teacher, Mrs. Zinno I told her my plans of becoming a teachers aid, she suggested that if I was going to go back to school for two years just to be an aid, why not go for another two years and become a teacher. I did alternative certification to become a paraprofessional or a teacher’s aide. When I completed my paraprofessional certification I still felt that it was just not enough. The words of Mrs. Zinno stuck in my head, I knew if I could complete this I could keep going; I set my goals higher. I attended Tarrant County College and received my Associates Degree; then I thought, “why stop here?” So, I continued to work on an Associates in Education.…
