It is this independent thoughtfulness which sets her aside from the community. She is more intelligent than them and is more aware of change around her and of consequences it inevitably brings. She is thus able to look beyond the narrowness of farm life yet still feel a powerful, poignant attachment to the land and respect its endurance in the face of change.…
Independence, being defined as the “freedom from the control, influence, support, aid, or the like, of others” (Dictionary.com), paints an accurate portrait of Martha Stewart. Despite the innumerable amount of support, influence, and aid from others she has received, Martha has formed no sort of reliance on those fleeting sources. Martha’s independence can once again be exhibited by Martha’s very own mother “‘[hesitating] to give [Martha] any advice because [Martha] thought she knew it all’” (50). Having grown up in a home where the cliché “if you want something done, do it yourself” was a cardinal rule, and Martha became completely self-sufficient and self-reliant. After divorcing her husband and loosing several of friends in the divorce, Martha was “‘forced to seek home and comfort elsewhere’” (Allen 31), and she did just that when she removed herself to Long Island and continued with her increasingly successful enterprise.…

I figure out independence as being in psychological and actual management of the lifestyle and income and having the capability to figure out a person's success. My perspective of independence would be regarded a ruined lifestyle as opposed to explanations of independence of those who resided through the Mid-20th millennium in Southern European countries. Through the sight of Heda Kovaly, my meaning of independence would not be obtainable quickly if at all.…
In the short story “A New England Nun” by Mary Wilkins Freeman the main character Louisa Ellis is a prime example of this statement. While her fiancée Joe is absent for fourteen years in Australia trying to make a fortune Louisa falls victim to her own routine. Louisa becomes independent and set in her own ways. Once Joe returns from Australia, Louisa has come to the realization that she has become so independent that she can’t change. Her lifestyle, her pets and her interactions with her fiancée Joe together make the theme of independence prevalent.…
Being independent is much harder than we think; Lucia and Frankie showed it to us every step of the book. When I started college at Florida International University, it felt like I started a new and different life; having school five minutes away from my house, waking up to have break fast done by my mom, not having any homework, not reading, not writing…are only a few of the changes that I’ve been through as college began. Independence is…

As a young child my mom always worried about me because I had no fear. I didn't like being told what to do and I would do my own thing. One of the things that worried her the most was my sense of adventure. I would run around and jump in puddles, climb dirt hills and climb trees. As I get older it becomes more extreme, for instance every year I now go cliff diving. My mom loved when we were outside but my recklessness certainly made it interesting. I have fallen out of quite a few trees in my day but this made me stronger. I am a very independent person. My independence has cause my drive in making my life the way I want. I won't let anyone or anything stand in my way. Hanging upside down from this tree represents my craziness, my adventure, my freedom, and my drive. I am a strong independent person. My independences often comes off as rude but honestly I just don't have time to sugar code things. If I want to get where I want to go in life, I have to work for it. As I’m working my way to the top I will enjoy the good things. I may not vocalize it but I do recognize the…
Independence is something thаt Ι hаve worked hаrd to achieve. My mom always said that ever since young age I have been very strong minded and did not like to rely on anyone for help. In the summer of 1994 my parents divorced and in the search of a better life, my father and I moved to United States. Ι was 18 years old. The decision…
If you weren’t able to cook, and had to rely on eating out everyday, you would be “dependant” on the stores or restaurants that you go to for meals. What if they had to close down? What if you had no restaurants around your area? You wouldn’t be able to eat without learning how to cook. If you could cook for yourself, none of these factors would affect you, as you could just cook for yourself, and eat at home. That is “independence”, meaning that you wouldn’t have to rely on others to have meals. If you were married, or you had to feed the kids, cooking would be the better option, than to always rely on takeaways.…
The first summer of my emancipation ought never to be forgotten. I didn't have a desire to get drunk straight away or learn other 'delights' of adulthood life. The only thing I lacked with all those years was being away from strict supervision. Straight after graduation I couldn't overcome profound sense of complete responsiveness and thinking of being super mature.…
