Nowadays, there are countless holidays, some of them known and popular all over the world, and some can be called local or even personal. The most widely known is the New Year holidays, Christmas, Halloween, Happy Easter and so on. Sometimes holidays can be quite strange or unusual, such as La Tomatina or The pirate day. However, each of these holidays has its own traditions and date of the celebration. Due to such variety, everyone finds a feast for the soul. And I am no exception.
As far back as I can remember New Year has been my favorite holiday. The gatherings with family and friends, passing out of presents, and decorating the house are among the most pleasant of my wintertime childhood memories. Of all of the customs, which my family followed, decorating the exterior of the house with bright lights was and continues to be my favorite New Year tradition.
I can say that this holiday in Russia is celebrated two days, one is on December 31th and the second on January 1st, on those two days we try to spend time together talking, laughing, traveling, and playing games and so on. As a result, New Year in my family is my favorite time of the year. The weeks before, it is felt in the air that everyone waits the New Year midnight with anxiety. In the morning and in the afternoon December 31, everyone in my family is definitely has something to do. For instance, mommy and I are always looking for recipes in advance; in order to please tastes of our family and guests, but my grandmother always gets it better and satisfies everyone’s appetite with some fantastic dishes. Besides, on our table there are always the traditional dishes such as Olivie and herring under a fur coat. Great food is almost the first reason why I love New Year holiday so much.
