In 1968, a article was published by a man named H.J. McCloskey called “On Being an Atheist”, in which an attempt to present arguments against the existence of God is made. In his work, McCloskey attempts to provide readers with the argument that atheism is more “reasonable and comfortable (McCloskey,1968)” compared to the alternative theistic view. In his article, McCloskey attempts to make arguments against the three typical theistic proofs of God which includes the cosmological and teleological arguments, along with the argument from design. McCloskey uses the existence of evil and the irrationalness off faith against the theistic view of God. At the beginning of the article it seems that an intriguing argument will be made regarding the theistic view point of God, yet as McCloskey continues the argument becomes more biased in attacking spiritual beliefs which questions his validity.…
The story, written in the form of a letter, shows the process of a thirteen-year-old girl becoming more mature as she expresses her grievances from her tragic childhood. At the beginning of the story, she described both the emotional and physical difficulties her family suffered through because of the absence of her father. She felt lonely, insecure and confused as she hoped that her father would come back. “Sometimes I had bad dreams. I would dream the welfare took us away and no one missed us, not even mommy. Daddy where were you?” (Page 163) At the end of the letter, however, the girl started to understand that her view of the world before was unbalanced and incomplete, “through a thin veil full of small holes”. (Page 165) She felt more released and started to notice “the greatness of the world”. (Page 165) She began to treasure all the memories she had with her family instead of thinking about her misery all the time, “we carried on living.” (Page 165) There was a great transition of her character from the beginning to the end of the letter.…

Although the definition of loss does not change, every individual processes it in a different manner. Some become depressed and develop a vile state of mind and live their life as if it had no meaning. Others prevail over their grief with optimism, and move on through life, aware of the unfortunate time but important learning experience. Others try to find closure. While they try to move on from the tragedy, they still carry a piece of their loved one with them, and try to find that one thing that will finally…
Darth Vader is a great example of someone that many people consider evil, but they are wrong. When looked at from the viewpoint of an existentialist his actions are innocent. Existentialist believe that only their personal existence matters. They feel as though they have the freedom to do whatever they please just because they have the ability to do it. Based on this reasoning Grendel, a character from John Gardner’s novel Grendel, can not be evil, he merely acts because he has the ability to do so.…
