My Hero's Short Story: Awaken
Chapter 1 Awaken

My name’s Michael and this is my story.
This all started when I went to sleep in my home in New York. I had a dad, my mom had disappeared when I was five. Life was great until I turned 15. This is the year when my worst nightmare began. I was kidnapped. I awoke in a dark, dismal, and cold room. At first I believed it was my room, but I quickly realized that I was on a cold cement floor. Somehow, I found my way to a light switch, and the room quickly brightened. I was startled to find I was in a warehouse with a single desk in the middle of the huge room. The desk had a typical office phone and as soon as I moved toward it, it rang. I quickly answered, and was startled to hear a muffled robotic voice. It said “Hello Michael,

“Please let this be a dream, Please let this be a dream” I repeated to myself various times. But as soon as I saw the giant padlock on the door, I knew. This was real. I've been kidnapped and it isn't a dream. As I started to weep, I realized that my hand was pulsing red. I thought at first that my hand was simply irritated. I soon realized that there's was a small, thin metal square in my hand. I started to freak out, I mean who wouldn't? This is when my life took another major turn. I noticed a note on the bedside table. It read “Michael, inside your hand is a tracker. If you try to escape, we will know and we will be waiting. When we let you into the outside world soon, we will tell you the code to the padlock on the door. Until then, get to work, and remember we have your …show more content…

I know I shouldn't, but I only want to see my dad and get my mom back from these people. All I know is that the CIA servers are almost impenetrable. I may not be good at hacking national security websites, but I am good at hacking wifi routers. I used to do it at my friends house all the time, to get their wifi passwords. But you know what else is inside the router service? The owners name. If I can figure out the name of the person who rents the router, maybe I can figure out who has kidnapped me. They thought that they could monitor my screen, but I just made a basic loop that turns on when I try to hack them, and it makes it look like I'm making progress against the CIA when in fact, it's against them. It's time to figure out who is behind this

I do feel that the second great awakening did fulfill the three features mentioned. Noll indicates that in a post revolution world “Interest in religion more generally also seemed on the decline” (Noll, 2003, p. 166). Faith had been waning in the post-revolutionary ear of America. Noll credits this to the concerns of birthing this young nation, attacks on old-world Christianity, as well as mentioning uncertainty surrounding the disestablishment of the church. He indicated that “Well under 10 percent of the population belonged formally to local congregations” (Noll, 2003, p. 166).…

There are voices, inside my head. They won’t stop, no matter what I do they tease me. They say a name I’ve only heard once. It doesn’t matter though, my therapist says they’ll be gone. “It’s just halloween messing with you, nothing more.” He wants to put me in a mental care facility. The only one we had was the “R. James Memorial Mental Institution.” It held the wealthier people that went crazy. Now kids go there to do illegal things. There are many people that died there. It was more of a death row than anything else.…

Hi, Karen! I'm thrilled to hear back from you! You couldn't have written back at a better time. To be honest, I'm a bit queasy about rereading that last message I wrote because of how all over the place it is and my cringeworthy grammar. If I were to reread this message in another five years might be weirded out just the same. I guess at some point you've got to accept your own quirkiness if you haven't already.…

Change does not occur easily or without conflict. Change does not occur quickly nor smoothly. Many characters go through change in a novel, like Edna from The Awakening. Edna lives as a simple mother-woman and follows the general rules of society. She later experiences new bearings which lead to her self-discovery toward a better life. Edna kills herself at the end of the novel and frees herself from the social confinements.…

It was still in its nondestroyed state. I was with my friends from night one plus my friend's mother that I mentioned earlier as well, and my own parents. I walked into the building and I saw that room with a locked door that has the light on at all times. I was told to never go inside of that room. They told me that it was not for me to go into. I was going on vacation to this house for some reason so I had to unpack my bag in a bedroom. The house was very old so I ignored any movement that I heard I put my things on the bed and I was very cold. My mom called out for me to go to the main room. I went out there and noticed that people were crucified, hanged, torn in half, and burned. The door with a mysterious light was open and the girl was standing in front of it. I was afraid not because of the bodies but because the door was open. The girl motioned for me to come to her and I was unable to resist walking to her. As I got closer she looked more disfigured and evil. Her eyes were the biggest part that I remember. They were black with light pupils. She had claws like in my earlier dreams and she had a scream that paralyzed me. She ran at me and right as she was about to hit me I saw every event that I have that I have done to help or hinder people in real life. This felt like it went on forever and then I woke up screaming and in a cold sweat. My mother was trying to wake me up for ten minutes because of my screams. I knew that something was wrong at this…

The opening scene in the novel The Awakening by Kate Chopin, where the caged parrots kept on repeating a statement, actually gives a picture to the reader about the title and the story. This scene, when analyzed carefully, illustrates how the main character of the play, Edna tries to overcome the awakening from the worldly and traditional bondages that she is surrounded with. In this story, Edna Pontellier, a young married woman experiences an awakening of sexuality within her, when she meets Robert Lebrun. Later, even though, the spirits are not connected, she has an extra marital affair with Alcee Robin. But, however, when all these affairs end, realizing that she…

Tired, with a headache, and not in capacity to maintain my eyes open, I remembered next day was Halloween, which was the last thing I remembered before falling sleep. I woke up and saw the watch, it was three o’clock a.m. I listened to a weird sound that came from my closet; it was soft, but I could hear it like a rat scratching the walls. Intrigued about what was happening, I woke up and walked towards the closet. The sound gave me the chills.…

He stopped laughing suddenly, looked me dead in the eye, and yelled, “Dónde está el dinero?” I had no idea what he said so I just sat there and said nothing. He didn’t act happy about that and dragged me into a pitch black room. He slammed the metal door shut and I was all alone. I waited in that room for what seemed like a week, but it could have really been five minutes. I started to have voracious hunger building up inside of me and it started to become a nuisance. I thought about whether anyone noticed I was gone yet, and if my family was safe. Suddenly, the door swung wide open and another man stood in the doorway. He looked like he pulverized crocodiles for a living. He had tattoo of a snake running all the way down his arm. I started to recede towards the back of the room. He said in a rough Mexican accent, “If you don’t give money back you feel much pain.” I told him that I had no idea what he was talking about and that I didn’t take any money from anybody. He glared at me and dragged me out of the room by my shirt collar. I was scared and about to cry as he was dragged me down a dark hallway. There was a labyrinth…

The street was deserted and the night felt eerie and silent. There was no glimmer of light to be seen. Sweat trickled down his back, his stomach was churning , and his knees felt weak, but he still hurried on not daring to look back now. Blindly he stumbled into an alley. There he searched through his stolen goods. Abruptly he heard foot stepts closing in on him. In the distance he could see red and blue lights flashing. In panic, he began to run. He bashed into bins and tripped over cracks in the path, desperately trying to find his way out of the alley.…
