An Essay On A Hero's Journey
"Ah young lord Glenard, do you have a business with me?."

A man from the corner of my eyes answered my question. It seems not everyone is missing yet.

"Barry, where's the other guards?. Shouldn't there be four people guarding this gate?."

"Well, they say the cold is too much for them to bear. So they are currently recuperating in the tavern. They should be back soon after finish warming up."

Seriously?, what use is guard shift if they leave the post on their own whim?.

"So other guards just left you here alone?."

"I can just yell at them if I notice something suspicious. A hero doesn't feel cold anyway. "

Barry, blacksmith's son with the heart of a hero, or so he hopes.

Rupherd initiate more militia training as the goblins attack frequency increases, taking anyone willing enough to guard the

Barry might be a little older than me, but I've been training with sword long before he was even born, an eleven year old body won't stop me from defeating him.

It felt quite good to occasionally win a spar every once in a while. There's chance that I'm already capable of beating Rupherd or at least the other guards, but it will require me to use my domain in ways other than telekinesis, something I tried to avoid in order to stay low profile. There should not be too much suspicions if I beat Barry, hence he currently act as some sort of punching bag for me. I'm planning to keep low profile until I truly sure I can hold my own when there's challenger or other sorts of people after me.

Me and Barry current spar records is thirty-four win for me, and null for him. He simply doesn't know when to accept defeat, always asking me to spar whenever we meet. His behavior also worried his parents, who would prefer him to take over the smith rather than becoming a swordsman. He himself have set the path of hero as his goal, currently splitting his time between blacksmithing and

That was all I could see of the mighty Barry when he attacked. After the attack I woke up drifting on some wooden wreckage, my family was nowhere in sight. I felt light headed and tried to swim back towards land but was having struggles, I pulled myself up on the wood to see a grave sight. Barry had sliced me leg clean off right under the knee, I was a trained sailor but at the sight of that I passed out cold. Once I had returned back to England, I spent the next two years saving up money by taking jobs here and there. Once I had earned enough, I bought me a ship by the name of the Blue Dragon and got some of me Navy buddies to be my crew. Ever since that stormy night, I’m waiting for Barry to show his ugly mug again. When that happens, I’ll be ready for the bugger and he won’t show those devilish eyes ever again. Nevertheless, once I brought my case to King George the 4th, he understood and now has several warships guarding that area. Now, let be talk about why I’m here in London, away from the seas and at this party that Scrooge has invited me…

I am convinced that you know what the hero’s journey is, only don’t you know it by name. The Hero’s Journey or Monomyth is a formula or a structure presented by Joseph Campbell in his book called The Hero of a Thousand Faces (1949). In this book, Campbell describes twelve stages of a narrative, and comes up with a conclusion that in great and successful narratives, the characters are all the same. Therefore, these stages can be applied in (almost) every narrative, from cinema or literature.…

I think I am starting to get tired of the everyday routine that we have to endure so we can spend the rest of the day travelling, only to rise the next day to repeat the process again. We wake up earlier than the sun does to eat a meal consisting of bacon, bacon, and more bacon. It wasn’t all that bad at first, but now, I can’t even look at it anymore. At this point in the journey, I am starting to be introduced to another side of nature, one that I didn’t get to experience back in Pittsburgh. We are travelling down a part of the prairie that provides a home to many unique specimens that are new to our city eyes.…
