My Inspiration
In our lives there is always a person that we look up to and admire. With that in mind we take examples from there lives and try to make the best of ours. Growing up I had a lot of persons that I strongly looked up to and admired, but the person that made a great impact and left a footprint in my journey of life would be my mother. She was always the person that had a smile on her face when things didn’t seem perfect, or the person that danced when every one else didn’t feel like it. As a teenager I wanted someone to tell me right from wrong, or to direct me onto the right path, and she was the perfect example. She was always there when I needed her the most and never let me down, not even in the smallest moments.
The out standing qualities that she possesses inspired me to be the person I am today. The faith and commitment she has dedicated to being a Christian is encouraging and motivating. She has shown to be the hardest worker I’ve ever known and taught me to do the same. Her goals were met with accuracy and persistence, never left unaccomplished and forgotten. Life wasn´t always perfect for her, she fought a lot for what she believed in and what was right, but despite the blocks she may had had in life she always knew how to get right back on track and be the supporting woman she is and has always been. She found a way to help others when she was the one that needed help, the one that needed a hand and the one that needed a friend, but it never stopped her in the least way; it was like she was my hero in disguise.
The memories that we shared still linger in my head as if it was just yesterday. I could recall the time she taught me how to cook, we had so much fun, she took learning to a whole new level and it was unforgettable. I was punished for my mistakes with ¨its ok¨ and ¨you´ll do better next time, ¨ and I never felt bad in any way. We would go to the mall together and she would explain to me the principals of life, so that I could be prepared for

One that stands out to me is my mom. She could do things that she is comfortable and convenient like not go to school or not get a job. She could do things that make it the best for her. She could go hang out with friends, but she doesn't. She does this she isn't comfortable with all the time and certainly isn't the most convenient for her. She goes to school and she has a job. She takes care of me, my sister, my step brother and even my brother’s friend. She stands out from anyone else that i know, she is my role model and she fits “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” perfectly. She is my wonder…

She is one of the most religious women in my life. She attended church every day and when she couldn’t make it to church, the priest would go to her home and preach to her. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays because those were times where our whole family, no matter where they were, would come down and enjoy a home cooked meal, made by her. Family is something that means the…

She taught me the right things in life, also letting me make mistakes so I would learn how to deal with things alone. The moment she helped me through a tough situation, I knew at that moment Monique was my mentor. Her guidance, the encouragement that came along with everything she did. Her warm heart and encouraging words shaped me into the person I am today. There was a quote she repeated many times, sort of a motivation for me, “you can be whoever you put your mind to”. Those few words inspired me to push myself. No matter my decisions she was always by my side, helping me along the way. Her change in positions going from a mother figure to a…

My Mother Ellawee Washington, she is the reason for my being. I watched her daily struggle to raise five children and never a word that we were not going to make it. My dad was killed when I was barely 8 years old, which left her a great responsibility. My mother is my love, advisor, mentor, cheerleader, and motivator. Every Mother’s Day I would tell the stories of how my mother took care of me even into my adult life and she replies I did not do it by myself; God led the way for me to take care of my children. One of her first writing assignments was to write a two page paper on who her hero was. She asked me to read her paper to make sure that there were no grammatical or punctuation errors and as I was reading her paper tear welled up in my eyes. She wrote that her hero was me. How my unselfishness to have a complete stranger stay in my home and to allow this stranger to have the same luxuries and experiences that I get in my everyday life was something she had never experienced before. She was grateful that I had "chose" her as a student to stay in my home and that she was very blessed to have someone who cared so much. I gave her back the notebook after making one small correction and with a quiver in my voice, stated "thank you, thank you for giving me the reason that I have been looking for as to why I was put on this earth; to make a difference in someone's life." She went back up to her room to finish her homework and I sat on my couch in my living room thankful for taking on the challenge of this experience. I felt that I was lucky to have been born in America and it was my duty as an American to allow students to be able to experience some of the freedoms that I get everyday.…

Apart from my parents the person that has always had major impact upon my life is my uncle, Reef. He guided me through everything both good and bad in my life. He was obese because he goes to McDonald’s every single day even if my mother prepare food for us to eat he will still go. He is one of the most intelligent people I know and we remain close even today. I love his partnership, his kids, his family and I consider them my family as well. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for him. The thing about him was his outlook on life, his positive energy and his unselfishness. He gave so much to the people in his life and I aspire to be that more and more every day. As I grew older, he started to give me more important advice. He would tell me, "Never let anyone get you down" or, "There's always a better way to accomplish something. You just have to find it." I would always listen to his advice, no matter how small it was. He also started to encourage me to find a passion. To him, he wanted to see me do something I would always enjoy and make something out of it. I learned that in life you need someone with experience that can teach you or give you guidance for you to succeed. Without someone important in your life it’s hard for children of our generation to succeed, because most of the kids that live around my neighborhood are dropout, they don’t have that person in their life that can direct them to the right path.…

One of the best things I remember is how we went to the seaside everyday. It took us 15 minutes to walk there and we spend nearly whole day there. I liked to go there with her very much; we’ve had so much fun together. Well, also one of the reasons was my friend Tima, 6 years older than me, very cute and kind guy. He was at sixth class when he left the school to find a job at the building construction to help his mother financially. We met every summer during 5 years. I miss his friendship very much now.…

My mother actually is an ordinary woman but in her tiny appearance lies an extraordinary fortitude, perseverance, a altruistic soul and a very kindly heart.
