Personal Narrative: My Mentor At M. S.
A mentor is more than someone who gives life lessons. A mentor is someone you can be yourself around, someone you're allowed to open up to, a non-judgemental figure. For me, this person wasn’t hard to find, it was as if she was placed in my life. A middle-aged woman with a short haircut, and a heart the size of the world, she goes by the name Monique. In 2005, she was diagnosed with M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis). Even with her M.S., she was the most uplifting person I have ever known. I like to think of her as the life of the party, a person so kind-hearted, someone who doesn’t mind doing things for others. As for me, I’m a young high school senior partially knowing her place in life, but needing extra help to figure it out, so outgoing and would do anything to see someone smile. With the help of Monique, I learned to open up my heart more for people. Monique has been around years before I was brought into the world. Although she was just my mother's friend, as time passed, and I grew up she became a really good friend of mine, inspiring me to do better and helping me become a better person. …show more content…
She taught me the right things in life, also letting me make mistakes so I would learn how to deal with things alone. The moment she helped me through a tough situation, I knew at that moment Monique was my mentor. Her guidance, the encouragement that came along with everything she did. Her warm heart and encouraging words shaped me into the person I am today. There was a quote she repeated many times, sort of a motivation for me, “you can be whoever you put your mind to”. Those few words inspired me to push myself. No matter my decisions she was always by my side, helping me along the way. Her change in positions going from a mother figure to a

I’m happy with who I am today, just as everyone should be. But if I could change anything about myself, I’d want to have more motivation to do things. In the mornings before school I can barely get out of bed because I’m so tired and don’t want to go to school. I’m exceedingly intelligent but I don’t have any drive. I procrastinate on most of my work, and sometimes I just don’t want to do the work. Right now I’m rank 14 in my class but I could’ve been higher if I had any drive my freshman year. I don’t think about how my decisions now will impact me later and when I do, I don’t really care. I also don’t have much motivation to do things in sports activities. Last year I played volleyball and I never had that much playing time. Never being able…

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

Kathy, it appears you have gained valuable knowledge and learning experiences during your practicum internship thus far. Your review of goals and objectives are attributes that will facilitate further development of your leadership skills, how exciting! The insight that you provided through the nurse/physician communication and collaboration seminar was valuable knowledge for me to reflect upon in my leadership development. The remaining goals and objectives that you have outlined in order to meet the course concepts and finalization of practicum experience will provide additional attributes and skills to foster your journey in attaining leadership growth. The simulation lab sounds exciting and appears to have attained a positive collaboration with the right stakeholders to facilitate the evidence-based practice concepts needed to provide favorable educational guidance that is conducive to the organization’s educational goals.…

The next part of my journey consists of going to medical school, getting an internship, as well as completing residency afterward. The medical school will last up to 4 years with the internship combined into the last 2 years of being in medical school. Internship and residency combined are usually between 3 to 8 years (How to Become a Physician or Surgeon). All states require physicians and surgeons to be licensed. To qualify for a license, I must graduate from an accredited medical school, complete residency training in a specialty that I choose, and pass written and practical exams. There are many different graduate schools that are really great but the three that I have real interests for are PITT School of Medicine, Oregon Health Science…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

I once had a crazy college professor who made us write a paper and put music to it. I wrote about how my wife was like my new kitchen trash can and played chords on my piano to enhance the words I spoke. My teacher liked it. I liked doing it. And, I think my wife still likes me after doing it too. The assignment, in both the way it was given and how I went about doing it, reflects two ways that embody my personal educational philosophy.…

During my educational journey specifically at the high school, my goal was to be a best student in our year group. But I could not achieve it. Before this shadowing experience, I knew that pursuing a career in medicine is something that I was interested in, but I never had a real experience to examine a typical doctor's life. After the first week of shadowing, I started getting a sense of what it is to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is not something easy. Every time I went to the office, there was a big list of patients that doctor Eloy had to meet. He had to be careful about the way he acts and the way he talks with patients, nurses, and other doctor. Even though it seemed so hard at the beginning, I enjoyed this experience and I learned a lot from it. I learned that being a doctor requires more than going to medical school. Medical school is just the first step. I learned that a…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…
