In addition, the report also recommends nurses to be full partners with the physicians and other members of the healthcare team to effectively increase the quality of care given to the patients (National Research Council, 2013). Because nurses are such strong advocates for patients, it would truly benefit the patient to have nurses participating in leadership roles. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, embedding leadership development into the nursing curriculum will have a positive effect on the amount of nurses fulfilling leadership roles in their healthcare setting (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, n.d). As a nurse, I have seen plenty of new graduates over the years. As time goes on, it is evident how better prepared and more motivated the new graduates are from the previous graduates for these leadership roles.…

By utilizing the information presented in this class, I was able to learn, apply and document via a written paper information on Erikson’s developmental stages and Butler’s Life Review. I was able to practice my interviewing skill during my interview of R.V. The take away I had with his interview is that it takes work to be successful and you have to have balance in your life. It may not come when you are at the peak of working or during education, but you must find the balance. I have enjoyed my time in this class and I will use he skills that I have learned and I will apply the information that I read as I enter into my practice as a nurse and hopefull as a nurse…

I was able to learn a lot about different diagnosis but I’m glad that I was able to see how well the MD and the LPN’s are able to work together. They work as a great team and try to provide each patient with all the infromation that need. They help each other out and make me want to work in an enviroment like this. This was my first time doing a clinic rotation and I was surprised at how many patients are seen each day and how each staff member plays are huge role in the day! I did not know how much the MD truly depends on the LPN’s and RN. Every action that the MD does effects and is determined by the LPN. I was truly surprise at how big team work is in this enviroment.…

I once had a crazy college professor who made us write a paper and put music to it. I wrote about how my wife was like my new kitchen trash can and played chords on my piano to enhance the words I spoke. My teacher liked it. I liked doing it. And, I think my wife still likes me after doing it too. The assignment, in both the way it was given and how I went about doing it, reflects two ways that embody my personal educational philosophy.…

My Socratic Seminar took place about a week ago on April 24. I always enjoy talking with my other English education majors because though we have lots of classes together we don’t often have many opportunities for open discussion between us. It was even better this time because we also had other language classes and journalism represented to add to our normal group of people. I was excited to see what knowledge they could bring to the table. Having read the questions beforehand, I was slightly nervous that we would actually find something to talk about. This class has been a slight struggle in just trying to differentiate between “teaching literacy,” which is something that all of the English students do all the time, and finding ways to “focus…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

I felt that the approach I took was in the right way and with the right intentions set out by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. My reflective experience was very basic I felt and did not allow for much discussion, although a lot of the experience was preparation, planning and assessing which prevented the experience to go bad in anyway. I feel that as I am a first year nursing student I am very limited in what I can do and because of this little opportunity is given to me to experience other than what I have preformed as a Health Care Assistant. Growing up I spent most of my childhood in Vietnam living an ordinary life. My parents were not risk-takers until they decided to quit their career as educators and move to the United States. Knowing that life in America will be challenging for immigrants, we mentally prepared ourselves to be fearless and get through every obstacle that is in our way. No matter how prepare we were, being a newcomer was frightful. When I first step foot on the land of promise, there was a mixed emotion suddenly rushed through me as a signal telling me life here will not be easy. We faced will endless obstacles and the language barrier is the most, the biggest challenge for us. Personally, I think learning a new language is difficult and requires a lot of hard…

Nurses are leaders in the healthcare field. Leaders must be effective and this program encourages students for this role. In my opinion, leadership grow out through life experiences. I particularly loved this course because the instructor included interview responses from many local leaders in the nursing community that offered individual perspective on their leadership style and how they became a leader. Competencies were met on this course through development of the capstone project and completing a written or oral assignments on various topics that are integral to nursing. I also learned about the pros and cons of the different leadership styles. The course allowed me to self-evaluate the type of leader that I am. It was empowering…
