Whilst working on my assignment, I read various journals on interprofessional collaboration (ICP), it did help me realize how important interprofessional collaboration is to the health care system. According to Alberto & Herth (2009), there is a need for faculties to incorporate interprofessional collaboration in the doctorate of nursing practice education. As a doctorate nurse practitioner it’s imperative to collaborate with other health care professionals, knowing its positive effect on patient’s safety and their health care outcomes. Most health care professional in the health care system are not trained to work as part of members in an integrated team (Johnson, 2011). …show more content…
The author states how health care professionals can attain great success with patient care as a team rather than working alone. As a DNP leader in the healthcare team one will know how important it is to provide effective care working in a team, respecting each other’s role and sharing common goals with the health care professionals that they collaborate with. Naylor (2011), identifies how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with its two health care models (Accountable care organization and patient centered medical homes) have improved the health care system through the use of interprofessional collaboration.
Through interprofessional collaboration the DNP with their leadership skills can achieve this goals:
• Improve communication among health care providers
• Reduce errors in patient care
• Help Advocate for
