Final Reflection Paper
Final Reflection The chronic illness management in teams of urban multidisciplinary scholars (CIMTUMS) project discusses the use of interprofessional learning teams to enhance patient outcomes with diabetic patients. After implementing interprofessional learning teams, knowledge and management of diabetes improved among the patients. Theoretical foundations for advanced Nursing roles and interprofessional collaboration has provided me with a wide variety of educational discussions that has influenced my professional development as a Nurse practitioner student. Now I have the knowledge to analyze theories, complex practices/organizational issues, interprofessional teams and leadership strategies in managing healthcare. Achievement of the educational preparation fulfilled by this course is exhibited through the attainment of the six course objectives.
Analyze theoretical concepts that support advanced nursing roles in health care and educational settings.
A theoretical concept that supports advanced nursing roles in health care and educational settings is clearly identified by the Institute of Medicine (2015). Altman, Butler, & Shern (2015) states, “ If nurses are to be

One evidenced based leadership strategy that has proven to manage ethical dilemmas in patient care is increasing education among nurses. Altman et al (2015) states, “ There is growing evidence that new models of practice in which all health professional practice to the full extent of their education and training offer greater efficiency and quality of services” (p. 15). When nurses maximize their education to the highest ability, they will be able to manage ethical dilemmas efficiently. Nurses should also stay up to date with their learning by taking continuing education courses to ensure leadership strategies are exhibited throughout the entire health care

In January 2013, Sterling Household Products Company (Sterling), a highly successful manufacturer and marketer of household goods, was experiencing low growth rates for unit volume, sales, and profits which led management to seek expansion into higher growth industries. Between 2010 and 2012, sales had a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of only 2.2%, sales volumes in units were less than 1% per year, operating expenses rising faster than inflation, and retailers with high buying power (The 10 largest customers accounted for 55% of sales). Sterling identified the health care infection-control market as an attractive sector with high growth opportunities, and the product lines were a natural extension of Sterling’s current production. Sterling found its ideal investment opportunity through Montagne Medical Instruments Company’s (Montagne) germicidal, sanitation, and antiseptic products unit (GS&A Unit). The unit was profitable with an operating margin of 18.9% in 2012 and sales grew over 5% annually the past two years. However it was not a core focus for Montagne and required scarce resources and time, so Montagne was eager to sell the unit.…

Whilst working on my assignment, I read various journals on interprofessional collaboration (ICP), it did help me realize how important interprofessional collaboration is to the health care system. According to Alberto & Herth (2009), there is a need for faculties to incorporate interprofessional collaboration in the doctorate of nursing practice education. As a doctorate nurse practitioner it’s imperative to collaborate with other health care professionals, knowing its positive effect on patient’s safety and their health care outcomes. Most health care professional in the health care system are not trained to work as part of members in an integrated team (Johnson, 2011).…

When considering the impact on nursing due to the report on The Future of Nursing (IOM report, 2010), the need for increased nursing education becomes even more relevant. The nursing profession constitutes the largest segment of the medical field. Thus, nursing will undoubtedly have a vital role in the development of the medical field. However, according to the IOM report, “A number of barriers prevent nurses from being able to respond effectively to rapidly changing healthcare setting and the evolving health care system” (IOM report, 2010).…

In reading the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on “Leading Change, Advancing Health”, it is evident that the nursing profession has contributed a great deal to the health of our nation. However, it is also apparent that there is much more that needs to be done. The nursing profession is ever changing and advancing. This is a profession with great versatility. As healthcare progresses, the need for higher educated nurses increases as well.…

According to the IOM, better patient outcomes can be achieved by working together “in a context of mutual respect and collaboration” (IOM, 2011, p. 223). To contribute to this outcome, nurses need to acquire strong leadership skills through higher education and become more involved in issues such as those concerning health policy, thereby transforming to “thoughtful strategists” (IOM, 2011, p. 223). The report strives to empower nurses to lead “at every level and across all settings” (p. 225).…

Hearing Nurse John is not as common as hearing Nurse Betty or Nurse Jane. But recently more men have decided to take the nursing career path and become male nurses, also referred to as “murses.” The article “I Want Your Job, Lady” in Time states that “in a sour economy, men are flocking to nursing, child care and other ‘female’ professions” (Cullen et al., 2003). The nursing profession needs to take steps to erase completely the gender-bias that still exists because although nursing is less discriminatory than it has been in the past, for too long the stereotype that nursing is a career only for women, kept men from entering the profession, but with the current acute shortage of nurses, the profession needs everyone with a calling--regardless of gender; in fact, in specific settings such as a mental hospitals, male nurses because of their greater physical strength are in particularly high demand.…

When I first began this class my definition of learning was, to obtain information or learn more information on something you did or did not know. After taking this class my whole definition of learning has changed. Now I believe that learning is the ability to know yourself and your learning skills. When a person know what type of learner and thinker they are, it would be easier for them to be an intentional learner. I have learned there is more to learning then sitting behind a desk listening to a lecture or reading a textbook from an online class. Learning is about really getting involved with your assignment and utilizing your patterns to become a critical thinker.…

Throughout the entire semester I have learned a lot about diversity and treating people who may be different than you with respect and realizing they are just like us, they just do things a little different. Every country and culture has different sets of cultural norms of behavior. We had many readings from the textbook and the movies we watched that helped me develop a better understanding of other peoples cultures. My favorite movie was; The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The reading, Too Many Bananas, was my favorite reading from the text that we read and discussed. We also did many things physically that connected with Neumann and the Franciscan traditions. We visited the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia’s home that is located on Neumann’s campus, and we all did our service hours with the community’s events throughout the tri-state area.…

Strategy formulation guides executives in defining the business their firm is in, the ends it seeks, and the means it will use to accomplish those ends. Strategy formulation combines a future-orientated perspective with concern for the firm`s internal and external environment. A key theme of the discussing of external environment is the problem of deciding whether to accept environmental constraints or to maneuver around them. Strategic managers use internal analysis profiles to target competitive advantage they can emphasize and competitive disadvantage they should correct or minimize.…

    Final Thought Paper

I must say that I am not entirely displeased with the final conclusion of the weekly, daunting ‘’Thought Paper’’ (admittedly because of my own inner laziness). However I must express what a refreshing assignment it was in comparison to weekly essays with a specific subject and format required. It was nice to express my thoughts about our class discussions, the chapter topics, and any interesting themes that were shared in group such as; movies, articles, music, and personal stories. Also writing a full page of just your thoughts and knowledge was not entirely the worst, especially if you were to just rant on about certain feelings towards the topics like I tended to do if what I was writing about interested me to that extent. And with this being the final thought paper I feel as though the class will be ending soon, although we still have much to do like interview project and of course, the dreaded final. Nonetheless, I was pretty surprised with my midterm grade and so I have high hopes for my final grade if I study very hard! And which of course I will do so.…
