Life Experience Paper
I believe that the following experience will influence my academic education at Colorado
Christian University. On November 23, 2002, our family had spent a wonderful day together. We were about a mile away home that evening when our minivan was struck by an oncoming car, driven by a drunk driver. Our van began to roll several times before it landed on its side. As this was happening I sensed a supernatural peace. My husband asked if everyone was okay. I heard our three-year-old and nine-year-old daughters screaming, so I knew they were alive. Our ten- year-old son was in the middle seat with our seven-month-old son. He began to cry out that he couldn’t find the baby. To our horror, our baby was ejected from
his car seat and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Losing our son has been the hardest trial I have ever had to face.
Not only did we have to live with the loss of our child but we were confronted by many other challenges. These trials included guiding our children through the grieving process, investigating our son’s case, fighting for justice for our son, and attending many court proceedings. We continued striving to maintain our salvation and sanity. Through this we leaned on God and His word for guidance, wisdom, and strength. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”
(Prov. 3:5-6, New King James Version).
I know that God allowed everything our family went through for a purpose. Although I do not know exactly where God is leading me, I intend to pursue my education as a means to seek His will and to fulfill the calling God has on my life. I know that with God’s help I can use all of the lessons I have learned to achieve my educational goals.
