Four teens are lucky to have survived a December 26 car crash. The teens were traveling along Route 46 when the driver and front seat passenger started fooling around. The passenger grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. The car slid on the grass, struck two snow plow blades, and ultimately came to a stop between two parked vehicles. Although all four occupants of the vehicle complained of pain, none of them were hurt enough to seek medical attention. Do not grab the wheel when someone else is driving and do not allow others to do this when you are driving. Do not even pretend you are going to grab the wheel. This can be extremely dangerous. Even if the person does not actually grab the wheel, it is a huge distraction to the driver.
Do not drive until everyone in the vehicle has buckled their seat belts.
Follow the restrictions set forth by the state concerning when a teen can and cannot drive as well as how many passengers may be in the vehicle while the teen is driving.
Do not be afraid to pull off to the side of the road if a passenger is causing a distraction, especially if the distraction may lead to a wreck otherwise.
Do not try to impress your friends by speeding or otherwise driving dangerously.
It is alright to refuse to ride with a friend or to refuse to drive a friend if your friend drives unsafely, encourages you to drive unsafely, or otherwise causes an unsafe driving situation.
Never use your cell phone while driving.
