My Own Mt. Rushmore
My Own Mt. Rushmore

Mt. Rushmore is one of America’s most recognized national monuments, sporting the faces of 4 of our nation’s greatest presidents: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson. If I were to reconstruct Mt. Rushmore with faces of my choosing, I would choose to put 4 of my favorite people in the whole world: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Seacrest, Ivan Doroschuk, and Alana “Honey Boo-Boo” Thompson. Nicolas Cage is one of my role models because he is a severely underappreciated actor. His talent levels are off the charts, yet people just can’t seem to recognize his unbelievable skills as both an actor, and as an entertainer. But despite the hate he receives he continues to make Oscar-worthy motion pictures such as National Treasure, National Treasure 2, Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance, and Season of the Witch. He deserves a spot on my hypothetical Mt. Rushmore because of his intrepid nature and uncanny acting skills. The next notable individual on my Mt. Rushmore is America’s sweetheart Ryan Seacrest. A television producer, a TV host, a radio host, and an all-around natural wonder of the world, he fearlessly continues to pioneer the media field by stretching the boundaries of his profession. He hosts the 12-year show American Idol, his own radio show called “On the Air With Ryan Seacrest”, and has even hosted several TV specials such as Gladiators 2000, and NBC Saturday Night at the Movies. He deserves perhaps the biggest spot on my Mt. Rushmore because of his skills as a producer, and as a talented host. My third candidate for my personal Mt. Rushmore is Ivan Doroschuk, the lead singer of the popular 80’s musical group Men Without Hats. Born Men Without Hats is a Canadian New Wave group from Montreal, Quebec. Their music is characterized by the distinctive baritone voice of their lead singer Ivan Doroschuk as well as their elaborate use of synthesizers and electronic processing. They achieved their

It depicts Crazy Horse, an Oglala Lakota warrior, riding a horse and pointing into the distance. The memorial was commissioned by Henry Standing Bear, a Lakota elder, to be sculpted by Korczak Ziolkowski. It is operated by the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, a private non-profit organization. The memorial consists of the mountain carving (monument), the Indian Museum In North America, and the Native Culture position. The monument is being carved out of Thunderhead Mountain on land considered sacred by some Oglala Lakota, between Custer and Hill City, roughly 17 miles from Mount Rushmore. The sculpture's final dimensions are planned to be 641 feet wide and 563 feet high. The head of Crazy Horse will be 87 feet high; by comparison, the heads of the four U.S. Presidents at Mount Rushmore are each 60 feet high. The monument has been in progress since 1948 and is far from completion. Completion is expected in 2020. If completed, it may become the world's largest sculpture, as well as the first non-religious statue to hold this record since 1967. The most recent is Russia's Mamayev…

“Ulysses S. Grant’s mausoleum is the largest tomb on the continent of North America.” (Aronson, p.78). Now formally known as General Grant National Memorial it is located in New York, NY. The architectural design on the tomb is very eye catching with many of Ulysses’ moments in history engraved on the rock itself or on mosaic glass panels. The panels show events like when he was a graduate of West Point , and the wars he served in which include the Mexican War, Civil War, Battle of Vicksburg and Chattanooga. One of the other panels show General…

“Robert Mitchum was a one-of-a-kinder, he was a legend, bigger than life.” Bruce Dern, a former Co-star, said in an interview (“Robert Mitchum”). To be honest, he is the most legendary, but an exceptional actor in the whole film industry. He was a hobo before he started his acting career, and kept a hobo’s heart till he died (Clarke). He was an actor who was famous of acting as a “western” over 100 movies as well (“Robert Mitchum”). If you talk many people who listen to classic rock and ask them if they know who “the boss” is and most would respond with one name, Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen has been an American rock n’ roll icon for almost three decades. For my listening assignment I chose to listen to Bruce’s breakout album “Born to Run”. Springsteen has been using the same band for years, The E Street band. Without this collection of hand picked musicians, now all good friends from their many years of touring and recording together it can be seen that the E Street band was essential to the success of Bruce Springsteen. After two albums that were not as successful as anticipated he came out with his third album “Born to Run”. The album “Born to Run” was one where he laid out all of his emotions and passion through his lyrics and melodies and it was a album that made him the legend that he is today.…
