Though it might seem like an obvious implication, other issues related to higher education may take the focus away from students. As professionals in this field, we ought to dedicate our time to the development of the students we serve and remind ourselves daily that their success is the purpose for what we do. We need to make time in our daily work to get to know the students we work with which helps to both guide and motivate them to do their best work.
It is no accident that I stumbled into the field of Student Affairs. The possibility of making connections with colleagues and students motivates me and has motivated me since I was an undergraduate. As a professional, it is my desire to embody continued growth throughout my professional career. I want to learn about different perspectives, practices, and techniques. We have the privilege to work with a changing group of students who have new and ideas. As a result, if we want truly to serve our students we need to expand our skill sets continually.
