A lot of this had to do with my parents and the certain teachers that I had growing up and the fact that they never really took the time to address this. From an early age I was never really taught about the differences between ethnic groups, and nor was it addressed even in the slightest. It was around the second grade when I made friends with an Asian girl named Kaiya that I understood how certain people were different from others. At the time we both had a crush on each other and I told her that I wanted to be her boyfriend. Her friends at the time made fun of us and teased me and said that I was white so we could only be friends.At first I didn’t really understand it, but then as I began to realize the own color of my skin I saw how in fact I was different and similar to everyone else. Being just a child, I was obviously upset and hurt in many ways. Now being a white male, I see the many advantages and privileges that I am given because of this. Socially, being a white male on a college campus does provide ease with making friends, and allows you a much wider variety of people for having intimate relationships with. On top of this, my being
