My Transformative Reflection, Take One! Creating and maintaining positive relationships with patients is essential to being a great nurse. Being a great nurse is not just what one knows, or does, it is also how one interacts with their patient as they do it. To be a great nurse one needs to be a relational being, which is the focus of the Relational Practice course. Two of my values and beliefs are the value of education and equality. I believe that education is immensely valuable and that learning is life long. Throughout life we have many experiences, and whether they are a negative or positive experience, there is room to discover and flourish from them. Education is important to a nurse. Even after becoming a registered nurse there are always opportunities to learn new skills, or go take more courses.
In addition to education, equality is one thing I value. I believe that all people, no matter what their status, background, or beliefs are, should be treated equally and be given the same opportunities, just as every patient should be treated with the same care and compassion. Whether they are dealing with a young child that was hit by an impaired driver, or the driver that hit them, one needs to be able to give them the same care, without bias. A nurse cannot alter your care from one patient to the next because it goes against the CNA Code of Ethics, which all nurses must abide by
