NAU Personal Statement
Dreams compose a personal vision. I have generally had difficulty believing that dreams can come true. My decisions about my future and career path have been deeply rooted in reality and practicality. At this time, circumstances in my life are transforming my hopes into real possibilities. In order to entertain that dreams could become reality is a tremendous transition in itself. The reality of family obligations at times are on a collision course with your dreams, work and personal. Looking at where I have been and what I have accomplished is also a critical part of the process. In my work life, I have been blessed with an abundance of opportunities to grow as a librarian and in a leadership direction. I have worked with colleagues …show more content…
In considering the next three years, my immediate priorities for personal development include being an excellent graduate student, actively participating in the learning designed for each class, and applying that new knowledge in my work environment. I intend to devote my free time to completing the degree program with full support from my husband and work colleagues. I believe strongly in the direction of the Cline Library and how it supports the students of NAU and plan to remain there for the next few years. I see myself continuing to actively pursue private funding in support of the outstanding programs offered and promoting the best user experience for students as a member of the Cline Library organization. I want to focus on opening my mind to the alternative viewpoints my colleagues bring to a conversation. I want to increase my comfort level with risk and get out of my own “box” more. I am already seeing a shift in my mindset at work and in how I approach a conversation and plan to continue that …show more content…
Mindfulness and self-awareness of my strengths through assessment is critical. Initial feedback from different instruments I have taken indicate that I have more creativity, coaching, and compassion for others than I would have believed. Continuing this self-awareness process will be important in further developing my learning focus

The legacy of Loma Linda University (LLU) and how it all began, told by Richard A. Schaefer was nothing short of inspirational. Ellen G. White, the pioneer that had the vision and drive to create the foundation we are all apart of today, deserves a tremendous amount of credit. The mission, vision, and values of LLU encompasses the thoughts and theories that Ellen G. White built the empire known as LLU upon. All students have displayed similar values throughout our application process putting us here, at the heart of this wonderful plan. “Making man whole” became the motto of the university and truly encapsulates what we all strive for in life. Having a balance in life through mind, body and spirit is essential to healthy living. Healthy…

I came to ATA because I’m in the Connect program and to take the fire rescue course here at the ATA. I choose fire rescue because I like to help people out in situations that they are facing in their life. Also, at the ATA, we do a lot of hands-on and verbal materials in the fire rescue course and pass all of the certifications to become a firefighter. My other goal is to go to Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) for my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In a few years after I get my EMT I will go back to HGTC for my Paramedic License and get paid to do this type of work every time I’m on shift. Analyzing as a firefighter has revealed that it suits my Introvert, iNtuition, Thinking, Judging (INTJ) personality. My Visual learning style, and my skills are doing hands-on materials. However, A will have to improve a little bit more communication to others in my field to be…

During the first nine weeks I have learned an immense amount about myself. The multiple intelligences, learning styles, and 16 personalities tests have taught me to understand myself and how I learn. When reviewing the results I noticed extreme accuracy in every field covered, including, how I learn, communicate, develop relationships and see myself. There were subjects explained that I had never before considered about myself so it was interesting to see how people similar to me perform in those areas. Results of tests have begun to improve aspects of my life that I did not know needed improvement. The learning style survey informed me that I am a solitary learner, although I was aware of this previously the conclusions drawn were still beneficial…

As my knowing self, I have always enjoyed learning and had an active and inquiring mind. Growing up, I was lucky to be physically fit and healthy, as well as emotionally stable, factors which were an advantage in the pursuit of acquiring knowledge and skills. I was also supported by family, friends and teachers. Thus, I developed a positive concept of, and confidence in, my knowing self. As a child my favourite past times were reading books and writing letters, thus I became a fast reader and an excellent speller. At school I developed excellent language and numeracy skills and took pride in my work. Overall, most aspects of my background as a child and student, as both my situated and knowing self, have been a great advantage to me as a learner.…

Nursing is a very challenging and interesting career which involves hard work and commitment. Since I started studying Health and Social Care, my interest in Nursing has grown. This has inspired me to study Child Nursing as I believe that my studies can be practically applied. I am also keen to make a difference to people’s lives, whether caring for children or supporting parents. My interest in and appreciation for this career has been encouraged by family members who work in the NHS, and who have made me aware of its less glamorous side, as well as the positivity of caring for others.…

Abilene Christian University exceeds my expectations of a Christian University. I would like to go to a school that not only calls themselves "Christian" but actually acknowledges Jesus Christ as the rock of their school and education. Personally, God comes first in my life, a university that feels the same is absolutely magnificent! My beliefs are such that it is not about a religion but rather a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. I do not belong to a denomination, I belong to God only because the relationship that we have is much greater than any religious personnel could give me.…

I am deeply honored to be among the great students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students with outstanding grades and commendable characters; I feel that I have both. Last quarter I received a 3.5. Throughout years, my personal vision/goals have changed due to unexpected circumstances. Recently, I have meditated and given a thought to my most realistic goals. When searching for a plan, I have categorized “my wants” for the next five years. I have always been a dreamer; but as I mature, mentally and spiritually, there are four things that have always been important in my life. The four are categorized as education, career, finances, and dreams. The four have a synchronized relationship with each other because they give answers to the where, what, and how of my future. Many say that to dream is somewhat of a human weakness but I feel dreams can be consider as a strength and weakness depending on the aspects of the dream. The importance of working hard about something you might be passionate can be powerful and fragile because you are guided by a dream and the belief the dream becoming the present…

I am lucky enough to have found the one thing that matters most to me quite early, during the 1st year of my undergraduate degree. As a part of entrepreneurship project, I interviewed a 43 year old entrepreneur who, within a decade, turned a $10 business into a $10 million enterprise. During the interaction, he shared with me a notepad where every morning he wrote about what new he is going to try today. To help me understand the effectiveness of the notepad, he inspired me to address the question “What learning will I get today about something totally new?” every morning for the next 3 months. Following this system of learning one new thing every day proved very powerful to me, which made me feel more accomplished than I ever felt before. Later on, this question became an interwoven part of my everyday life and the leading cause of most of my personal and professional achievements.…
