NYC Kautz Uible Trip Case Study
● Why should you be selected to attend the NYC Kautz Uible Trip?
The NYC Kautz Uible Trip provides many great opportunities that any economics major/minor would like to take part in. I should be selected for the NYC trip for the reason that I show great passion for the economic world and would be very grateful to get to experience events such as talking with the Federal Reserve, visiting a corporate bank, and possibly visiting the NYSE. To be able to visit these locations and meet the people involved there is truly an invaluable opportunity, and I will make the most of the opportunities presented.

Although I’m only a first-year student, I’m continually developing my economic background by reading The Economist on a daily basis. The Economist is a fantastic source of news regarding macro and micro economics going on in our ever-globalizing economy today. Currently, the news source is flooded with

● How will being selected impact your development as an economics major/minor?
Being selected for the NYC Kautz Uible Trip would not only give me more confidence to pursue a Business Economics major, but also help me find a supporting major to go along with it. As Dr. Pal stated, an Economics degree alone is valuable, but if you can pair it up with another major you will be much more successful. I currently wish to pursue a Business Economics/Finance double major, however I’m open to exploring other supporting majors as well. The visits to the financial institutions of New York City will surely help me decide what fields I can contribute to and will suit me best.

● What have you contributed to the Economics Society in the past or plan on contributing in the future

Reading the book Naked Economics, by Charles Wheelan, as assigned summer reading for my senior class in AP Economics, sparked my interest in a subject that I previously knew very little about. I like the way economics requires using analytical and critical thinking skills to help clarify real world problems and their potential solutions. I now see how I am a part of our economy and how much of what I learn in school applies to the real world. As my class progresses, the more I want to know about our nation's finances, and their effect on the everyday person. Finance and economics affect us everyday, and having a basic understanding of these subjects has an impact on our jobs, retirement, and health care. Because of this, economics is a growing interest of mine that I wish to continue to study at…

First, economists claim to be scientists or technicians who study ‘facts’, not values; they make ‘scientific’ studies and predictions. Yet economists failed to predict the Global Financial Crisis. For example, the top of the tree of public sector economists in the United States has admitted to having a fundamental misunderstanding of the economy and economic processes. The facts of the world have not supported the economists’ models (Alvey, 2011). For us, the way our economy runs is basing from the theoretical models, policies, strategies and processes of that of the United States economy. It is high time for us to revisit/re-evaluate our economy and to innovate and test some strategies very carefully which are only applicable to our system that met international standards and global acceptance so as when crisis strikes our economy, we know how to anticipate and adapt easily to its changes.…
