This article is relevant to Animal Farm because Kim Jong Un is analogous to Napoleon, and his celebration is analogous to Napoleon’s Spontaneous Demonstrations. In the article, it tells of how North Koreans toiled day and night, renovating the Central Zoo and planting rows of apple trees. Similarly, the animals on the farm work incredibly hard in building the windmill and harvesting their own crops. North Korea’s party and Animal Farm’s Spontaneous Demonstrations both act as a distraction from the hard work the two societies face. On page 116, the novella states that “ So that, what with the songs, the processions, Squealer’s lists of figures, the thunder of the gun, the crowing of the cockerel, and the fluttering of the flag, they were able to forget that their bellies were empty, at least part of the time.” In the article, it says Kim Jong Un is signaling to his people that the Workers’ Party is firmly back on track and in control as the nation’s ruling body after 17 years of military dominated rule, and this rule could be compared to Jones’s regime. This is scary because the article also mentions Kim Jong Un’s string of nuclear tests, so it is possible that sometime in the future we could be hit by a nuclear bomb. Animal Farm relates to me because the Spontaneous Demonstrations in the novella are similar to events that I celebrate. Also, every day I show my loyalty to the United States by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This is comparable to how the animals show their allegiance to the farm by Spontaneous
