It was in the comfortably lit classroom of my freshman general music period where I learned the influence that music could have in one's life. My teacher would frequently remind our class of her belief: that music had the power to save someone's life. During that time it seemed strange to me, I wanted to ask her how how could something so small could affect or influence someone so significantly. I became accustomed to tear stained pillows, unable to comfortably express myself with people. Music became my escape, from time and surrounds. All I needed was a pair of earbuds and I’d be millions of miles away from anything and everything. I became a responsible escapist, keeping my responsibilities and keeping my obligations met. Music was my breath of fresh air, a mostly introspective way of expressing myself to myself. My music tastes expanded, becoming more and more diversified to handle a growing need of relatable music. Melancholy, a virus that seems to plague teenagers with frequent intensity and Brian Immanuel washed it. As loneliness took stride with the colorful voice of Daniel Caesar, Kehlani was by my side to convince me to embarrass myself for who I am.
