Carteno, rendered speechless, stood next to her wooden-framed bed. The meak light from the overcast sky was all that lit the dark room. Stained beige carpet coated the area of younger Carteno’s bedroom, surrounded by a white strip that connected the ground and wooden walls. A large thick television was positioned horizontally from the pink blanketed bed atop a dresser covered in car stickers and scratches. Dropping her act, she opened her eyes, the small amount of light that bounced about the room glinting in her tear bearing eyeballs. She shook her head, her mother for once not questioning her furthermore and instead embracing her child. Carteno hiccuped her mother’s arms, her shaky voice asking, “Mom, am I good person?” Both younger and young Carteno looked at their mother’s grief-stricken expression.
It was the first time that Carteno had ever been open with her mother when it came to her emotions, providing the opening to a path full of trust and honesty for Carteno and her mother. Before she could properly react, the Ghost had taken Carteno to a much closer past, now in her parents’ room. Carteno sat next to her mother on the soft black blanketed mattress, staying silent for a few seconds to gather her words. There it then came, the truth of her emotions and thoughts, pouring out of the faucet that was her mouth. Her mother listened, speaking between with feedback and advice. The two continued speaking, the mood lifting from that of serious to light, ending with laughter and
