Narrative-The Single Story Community Club
Amidst the tall sky scrappers and plazas that surrounded and loomed over it, the single story community center looks, in spite of its irregular structure, positively delicate and graceful. It is no less busy than them; there is a double row of cars in front of it, and an even greater number of motorcycles. The sounds emerging from within mingle, albeit discordantly, with the mayhem outside.

Laughter. The excited shrieks of the children as they run about, colliding with everyone and everything. The hum of the voices of the adults, theear-piercing rock music from the teen zone

I feel that I am qualified to be an officer because I was a member, Vice-President, and then President of my high school’s volunteer club (Interact Club). I went to a small, Christian private school, and the club was student-lead with minimal help from our two faculty sponsors. The Interact Club was my greatest achievement in high school. Before my Secretary, and then Vice President and I came into office, even at our small school, many students, teachers and faculty were unaware of what Interact was and what we did in the community. We brought a new aura, publicity, worked exclusively with our Head of School, designed brand new t-shirts, brought in a new executive board, financial sponsors, and hosted our school’s very first talent show where…

I have moved around quite a bit which means there have been many significant moments in my life, but one seems to stand out, It happened a few months after I moved to my sixth school, Parkers Prairie High School. While I was only in seventh grade, I was still considered a high-schooler because of the way the district functioned. This meant that I had harder classes and more homework, but it also meant that I could participate in high school clubs, so I became part of the PPHS Knowledge Bowl Group. A significant event in my life is when my team won a Knowledge Bowl Meet because I got out of school, I got to meet new friends, and it gave me a strong sense of accomplishment.…

For the past three years, I have been the Key Club class representative. Throughout my experience, I learned that leadership is essential in volunteer operations, whether providing food for the hungry on a small scale or raising money for people in need. My role as class representative revolved around my ability to attract and retain quality volunteers. I was responsible for delegating essential tasks to the volunteers in a fair, effective manner. As the class representative, I was initially a volunteer coordinator, one of my initiatives was to allow volunteers to choose which tasks they felt most comfortable with. I had to get to know the members and understand their limits and play on their strength .With that knowledge, I was able to identify…

Throughout our lives there are many obstacles we have to face, some may shape us and some may scar us years onward. My story is a common one that countless people have faced that got in the form of disguise that isn’t always pretty. Approximately ten years ago when I was a regular third grader, when life seemed to be rosy and full of fairytales, that nothing can be worse than not having your favorite meal at lunch, I had a theatre performance that changed my life.…

They thought it was funny, we actually became friends. The third guy just asked me why I loved him and I responded “because you're a beautiful human being”, he laughed and said nice to meet you. We also became friends. The girl that asked me why I told her I loved her said to me “before you say anything I’m not lesbian” I was really amused because I wasn’t flirting with her for her to think I actually liked her and loved her. I was the one feeling more awkward I have to admit. I told her it was a social experiment I was doing for my sociology class and apologized, she said “oh okay cool” and walked away. That was one of the most awkward situations I was put in throughout the experiment. When I broke the social norm with my professors it was…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. The only event I remember was when I was about one. While I was one, I grabbed everything in my reach, even a grill handle. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. Ever since that event, I now have a starfish mark on the side of my right thumb from where the stiches were.…

I can’t believe that my mom is seriously making us move. Ever since my dad passed she had been talking about moving to Connecticut. She said it would give us a fresh start and be able to get away from everything but I don’t want a fresh start I want to stay here in Raven Rock, California where I belong. One of the worst parts is my mom still needs our other car back in Connecticut, and I haven't drove since it happened. The only way she could get her car here was for me to drive which she knew I didn’t want to, or she could ship it to our house which costs too much money. Instead of making me drive she is making a 19 year old college student that I used to play with when I was younger that I don’t even remember and he is going to drive me across…
