Because of my answer, our team had won the entire meet! This really boosted my confidence and made me feel much more sure of myself and my abilities. My team started whooping and high-fiving. We all left the room to find Mr. O-brien.
We collectively shouted to him, “We won!”.
He pulled off his sweatshirt, threw it on the floor, and pointed at the other PPHS coach and started yelling jokingly yet obnoxiously, embracing the Irish reputation, “HA! In your face Dabrowski!”, and started waving his hands in the air.
Everyone on my team shared in his pride, though perhaps not quite so enthusiastically. We were all proud of ourselves. We were each individually awarded blue ribbons and collectively awarded a plaque and two trophies, one for first place and the other for holding one slot for so long. This was a huge ego boost to all of us and we went home, excited to flaunt our blue ribbons.
My team winning a Knowledge Bowl Meet was an important event in my life. Igot to experience a new way of learning that was also enjoyable. I met many new people and made friends that I'm confident will remain so for years to come. I found a way to boost my confidence without even meaning to.
