Personal Narrative: PPHS Knowledge Bowl Meet
The Meet I have moved around quite a bit which means there have been many significant moments in my life, but one seems to stand out, It happened a few months after I moved to my sixth school, Parkers Prairie High School. While I was only in seventh grade, I was still considered a high-schooler because of the way the district functioned. This meant that I had harder classes and more homework, but it also meant that I could participate in high school clubs, so I became part of the PPHS Knowledge Bowl Group. A significant event in my life is when my team won a Knowledge Bowl Meet because I got out of school, I got to meet new friends, and it gave me a strong sense of accomplishment. When I went to the Knowledge Bowl Meet, it meant that I, and …show more content…
Because of my answer, our team had won the entire meet! This really boosted my confidence and made me feel much more sure of myself and my abilities. My team started whooping and high-fiving. We all left the room to find Mr. O-brien.
We collectively shouted to him, “We won!”.
He pulled off his sweatshirt, threw it on the floor, and pointed at the other PPHS coach and started yelling jokingly yet obnoxiously, embracing the Irish reputation, “HA! In your face Dabrowski!”, and started waving his hands in the air.
Everyone on my team shared in his pride, though perhaps not quite so enthusiastically. We were all proud of ourselves. We were each individually awarded blue ribbons and collectively awarded a plaque and two trophies, one for first place and the other for holding one slot for so long. This was a huge ego boost to all of us and we went home, excited to flaunt our blue ribbons.
My team winning a Knowledge Bowl Meet was an important event in my life. Igot to experience a new way of learning that was also enjoyable. I met many new people and made friends that I'm confident will remain so for years to come. I found a way to boost my confidence without even meaning to. I would strongly encourage any other student to participate i this group. This moment positively altered my life and i'm glad I took the opportunity to

It was a struggle, but the more time on this day passed, the more experience I gained. It helped me learn more things and notice things that I did not notice before, helping me to help out the other bowlers. It also gave me more confidence; I felt like I could run the league again if needed, and I also felt like I could coach and help others improve their game even more so than when I started.…

Quite possibly the most significant time of my life was during my senior year as part of the Edison High School football team. The story of our 2006 season is a reflection of my life and testimony to my beliefs and values. Underdogs from day one, we represented not only our school, but also our community and families. Early expectations of the 2006 Eagles were low and the surrounding community was under the belief that Edison would be lucky to go 6-4 with the inexperienced players and the loss of such a talented senior class. Suddenly, I was starting as the outside linebacker/defensive end for the first time in my career along with 18 brand new starters. Unexpectedly, a green group of replacements were 5-0, half-way through our season. After…

My coaches and my team members did everything they could to make me feel apart of the team, they made sure I knew of practice times, meet times, and team bonding. I showed up at every meet to cheer my team on, and still connect with the existing team members and the new girls. At the end of the year banquet, my coaches presented me with the most spirited award. Staying connected with my team, and not letting an injury cause me to fade away from my favorite sport and my favorite group of people became my biggest priority. The true dedication to my team is what won me most spirited and made me feel connected to my team.…

My significant event is about my sixth grade trip to the Woodlands. It was right before the school day started, and the sky was blue and clear. After everyone was accounted for, it was a brief bus ride up the road to the Woodlands. Although I was nervous about going, that all went away because it was a beautiful day to bask in the woods, and socialize. The first day we were there, we were initiated, and we had to create woodsey nicknames for ourselves. We all hung out together outside the Mess Hall and enjoyed the sun.…

My last year of band, my junior year, we got accepted into going to all-state band. I’d never done this before, so it was a whole new experience. We had been working on a bookmark piece for the entire year now, ready to perform it for competition. It was titled “Bookmarks from Japan”, and is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve heard to date. We preformed in front of four judges, and then listened to other bands. Once the awards rolled around, surprise filled the room. Our band had taken second place overall. In the ENTIRE state! I’ve never felt more recognition for hard work than I have in my life.…

In my 5th grade, I won the class spelling bee, beating a good grade school friend of mine. The rules were that the winner, and the runner up of each grade would go on to the next stage. Within the next week was the grade competition. We gathered in the school conference room for the competition. My 5th grade companion lost early in the competition, but I continued on. All I could do is spell the words the best I could, and hope for the best. Low and behold, I won, despite going up against kids older and more knowledgeable than…

Another notable event was the start of my Eagle Scout Project. I built some furniture for the Jimmy Doolittle Center nearby. The project was a major success and the Center thanked me for my contribution. School started again, and I continue to enjoy the challenge it brings. This year, as a sophomore, I am likely to receive the Straight A’s award. I participate in the Jam, Philosophy, and Engineering club. I was just recently accepted into the leadership class, and I hope to transfer my leadership skills over from Scouts. At the start of this year my troop elected me to be the SPL. After my race I adventured into the overfilling bleachers to find my parent, only to see so many people of whom I love very much. They all drove 3 hours to watch me run for 15.37 seconds. My parents and little sister, two friends who are also teammates, my basketball coach, and both track coaches were all sitting in the middle section 8 rows up next to the fence, with the biggest smiles on their faces. I was embraced with hugs and encouraging words.…
