The title relates to the story because the scarlet letter in the story is an “A” which means adultery, it also shows the response of the townspeople-- how they think the act should not be dismissed but rather shown to remind others what not to do. As well, the novel shows how Hester Prynne’s life changes by wearing that letter. The three main characters are Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth, and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. The story is basically the recalling of Adam and Eve and their sin which causes pain and suffering, just as Hester and Dimmesdale sin has. Three important quotes are (QUOTES w/ text citation).
