The following is a summary of the prevalence and correlates of mental disorders among Native American women in primary care. This summary will include the objectives, the methods, the results, and the conclusions.
American Indian and Alaska Native women who presented for primary care were examined the lifetime and the past-year prevalence and correlates of common mental disorder. Limited information exists about the prevalence of mental illness among American Indian women and Alaska Native women, because the two major US prevalence studies, the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study and the National Comorbidity Survey did not report data on American Indians and Alaska Natives. It is a shame what was done to this group of people as a whole. The history of what has happened to the American Indians and the Alaska Natives may have caused their socioeconomic conditions in a sense. I think that got a bad exchange from the white man. Which causing them to lose their land, family and nation. Although God says that all men are created equal, I do not believe that they were ever treated as an equal. In Galatians 3:28, the Lord shows us that we are all created equal when he says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Except that they have not been treated as an equal group to the white mas as God has said in his word and expected form the white man. The thoughts and ideas from the white man of what is fair and equal treatment of other races and ethnic groups is not for all to be one in Christ Jesus but only as to what will benefit the white man.
As we can perceive from the study there is sufficient evidence to show the need for culturally appropriate mental health rehabilitation centers and preventive services to help with issues of drug and alcohol addictions along with depression disorders, anxiety disorders and many other afflictions that come with the life and history that these groups have lived through and still battle on a daily …show more content…
