Economic Structure Trade made up most of the economic life of the native Americans. Tribes traded food such as meat and corn. There were times that the tribes traveled open trading routes. There were also wampum jewelry, and weapons with each other. There were frequent trades with the Native Americans. This was for furs. The exchange for furs was beads, cloths, cooking and hunting tools Focused on the fur trade using the European metal utensils with the local tribe of Iroquois. Then the nations into large confederations. These leaders of the confederations were to keep peace between the tribes. This would insure that the trades and peace were always kept. The charter companies that gave a company rights to settle in America mostly lay in the north. These royal colonies were however, ruled by the English king and also governed by the House of Burgesses. Anyone company that received a charter had to have regular meeting with the stockholders and any officers. All free men were allowed to vote in these arrangements. Towns elected their own representatives to the assemblies. Then the assembly would elect the government officials. These officials made all the decisions and laws. Many of the decisions were made at toan level but some were also made at the county level. In Virginia however there was an appointed Colonial Governor and he chose who would be on his council. Each colony developed a unique cultural value because the colonies were made up of the two different parts English and European. However in some colonies there was one of the other that dominated and the cultural values were adapted. .
