Nature of Thought
Thinking has many definitions. However they all have certain traits they share. The most common trait they all share is the ability to use reason to move beyond the acquisition of facts to uncover deep meaning (Weissberg, 2013). Chapter one of our text defines thinking as the activity of the brain that can potentially be communicated (Kirby &Goodpaster, 2007). Humans can communicate thought with language or by writing these thoughts down to share them with others or to refer to them at a later time. Humans express their thoughts by communicating them. The reason humans do this is to have other views on their thinking. The human-to-human interaction allows us to think objectively (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). There are four ways to improve to help improve your memory. Make information meaningful. Associating the information with something important in your everyday life does this and makes the information easier to retain. Meaningful events like the birth of your first child or the day you received your driver’s license, these types of events are easy to remember. Use Mnemonic techniques. These are strategies used for encoding information, so recall is easier (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). The uses of pictures or rhyming are examples of this method of improving memory. Repeat the information over and over again. While repeating the information be sure to think about it and make the information meaningful to help recall the information. The fourth step, to improving memory, would be to practice. Practice is done by using your memory and exercising it. Working out memory much like working out in the gym will increase its ability to perform well when needed. These four simple steps can help improve memory.
