Natzies Cruelty In Night
Cruelty in Night
During the Holocaust, cruelty wasn’t something unfamiliar to the prisoners. As it is shown in the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Natzies didn’t use only one form of cruelty to rule the prisoner's life. When someone talks about their experiences in the camps they never say I was never beaten or my family stayed together the whole time, they say how hard life was and how every day they had to fight the odds to live. Cruelty isn’t always a physical thing, someone can be emotionally cruel to someone else. In this book, Elie gives examples of several cruel things not only the Natzies did but also what the prisoners did to one another. The Natzies where known for there ability to dehumanize their prisoners. “They took our hair off

Elie Wiesel’s memoir ‘Night’ shows concepts of dehumanisation and savagery through the times of the Holocaust. Wiesel documents his experiences of hardship and atrocities to warn future generations of what occurred so that history doesn’t repeat itself. Through two passages we see images of the brutality that had occurred throughout the journey Elie had experienced. Although the passages are similar, they differ from each other because they’re both different experiences. In the first selected passage we see images of brutality being witnessed by a young boy whose beliefs are destroyed and there is no help, only ‘silence’. In the second selected passage the horror of the 42+ mile death march was documented which occurred later in the memoir.…

In reaction to the book Night by Elie Wiesel I can truly say that I am shocked and appalled by the fact that the Nazi guards got away with committing such atrocities to their Jewish prisoners such as what they did in this book. Many people believe that prisoners in Auschwitz do exactly what they are told, and nothing else. On the contrary, these prisoners took advantage of every opportunity and were selfish when it came down to a matter of life or death. In the novels Night and Maus II by Elie Wiesel and Art Spiegelman, the main characters Elie and Vladek are prisoners at Auschwitz. Both Vladek and Elie take advantage of the opportunities given. They are also selfish when it comes to survival, hence only relying on themselves. This is crucial to their survival of the death camp. In Elie Wiesel’s novel Night it shows that after experiencing a lack of compassion on a daily basis, people to feel pain. Night is Wiesel’s account from being in the Holocaust, and the horrors he faced. Not only are the Jews being shown lack of compassion by officer’s who guard the camp, but even their own people. It is like a chain reaction; no compassion is shown to the Jews, so the Jews showed no compassion towards each other. For example, when the officers were forcing Wiesel and others to run Zalman, a young boy from Poland, fell behind because of a stomach ache. Wiesel’s reaction was “I soon forgot him. I began to think of myself again” (86). This shows the lack of compassion he felt for Zalman who suffered because of the chain of events.…

In Hitler`s concentration camps the Jews were abused, starved and freezing. People who had power in the camps were the strongest. They could beat whoever and whenever they wanted to. Once Elie cross the path of Idek while he was nervous and he started hitting him so hard, “He threw himself on me like a wild beast, beating me in the chest, on my head, throwing me to the ground and picking me up again, crushing me with ever more violent bows, until I was covered in blood” (Wiesel, 53). This quote shows us how unfair was life in those camps to the people that didn`t have power. The powerful ones were hitting the people so hard and they did not care about them. During the winter the Jews were freezing because they didn’t have such things as blankets, gloves and hats. While Elie was going to Buchenwald camp he said “We were nothing but frozen bodies” (Wiesel, 100). In this quote Elie Wiesel literally describes himself and his others fellows as nothing more but “frozen bodies”. They didn`t receive any food and ate only snow. During the night they were lying on top of each other just so they don`t freeze so fast. Another cause of a physical change is malnutrition. Their food was insufficient and all of the people lost a lot of weight. A few days after the liberation of…

In this scene from Night by Elie Wiesel, Jewish people are being forced from their barrack for the disinfection process where they were soaked in a nasty liquid. Once this humiliating process is done, an ill-fitting assortment of clothes is thrown at them, making them feel sub-human. This scene illustrates the effects of the horrific mistreatment of Jews, they lose their spirit and feel like empty corpses, which shows that the violation of human rights can crush a soul. Elie and his fellow prisoners were being “expelled from the barrack.” The Nazi’s force them to “Run!” through the freezing wind, while naked. This made the prisoners feel like they “ceased to be men” because of this barbaric treatment. Even through all of this pain a “star shone…
