She glanced at the envelope from Sister Carlotta O'Donnell, the head school mistress. She thought about hiding the letter. Would her parents hear about it if she hid the note? There was the note sealed inside of the school’s envelope. She could barely make out the dark writing of the school’s stationary, inside. She peeled the flap away from the envelope carefully, trying not to rip it. Did her father have to sign it? She laid it down.
A paper from the boy she called Gravy Eyes, a local boy that she had a secret crush on said, “It’s at Crissy Field, Marcy. In front of the airplane hangars.” For a girl that had never even had her first kiss, she was reeling with excitement. Gravy Eyes. His real name was Skip Richardson. But, those damned eyes always seemed to be peering furtively at her and they were the color of gravy. And she loved it! He glanced quickly at her and turned, and her heart did a free fall. He looked again and she felt a hidden message exchanged. She never felt anything like those looks before.
She turned back to the note from Sister Carlotta O’ Donnell. The envelope was open. She slid the letter out and read
