A lot of young adults join the military for selfish reason such as, the need to pay for college, the desire to carry a weapon, or even to shoot another person. Coach Teifer joined the military simply because he wanted to serve the best country in the world. Waiting for the girls getting out of their seven o’clock practice, to pass by the small classroom we were in, I then questioned Coach Teifer as to why the Navy SEALS is such an elite group. “Because it’s the only group that has to train. The name SEAL stands for Sea, Air, and Land. So you have to learn to operate in water. Jumping out of planes, and landing. So it combines every kind of terrain there is.” This Navy Seal program he was in, started with 108 people and graduated only 12 people.…

    Lone Survivor

    • 1559 Words
    • 4 Pages

The beginning starts off by portraying how torturous and intense the training is for the Navy SEALs. It actually takes over 30 months to train a Navy SEAL to the point where he is ready for deployment. The SEALs that complete the training are capable of performing pretty much any task thrown at them, including diving, combat swimming, navigation, demolitions, weapons, parachuting, and many more. Marcus Luttrell regards the Navy SEAL training as, “An unrelenting desire to push yourself further than anyone could ever think possible.” In addition, Lone Survivor seemed to especially stress the bonds and friendships that were formed from the extreme Navy SEAL training – or as they’d like to call it - a band of brothers. Throughout the entire movie, you can tell that the SEALs’ bonds were a lot stronger than that of average, everyday friends you would see walking down the street. I cannot know for sure but maybe it comes from putting their lives on the line as a close-knit brotherhood for the United States of America, just maybe.…

I believe that Air Force Memorial Located Arlington Virginia Is the most incredible memorial ever made because of how strongly it shows towards the men and women that were killed in combat. Simple in design, Freed's monument includes three curved stainless steel spires that stretch about 270 feet (82 meter) into the air. Meant to evoke the image of the precision "bomb burst" maneuver performed by the United States Air Force Thunderbird Demonstration Team, the three graceful spires are also designed to represent the U.S. Air Force's command of the skies. The spires sit upon a granite Air Force "star", a symbol found on every U.S.A.F. plane. Other parts of the memorial include a "Runway to Glory" and a bronze Honor Guard statue by Zenos Frudakis. There's also a Glass Contemplation Wall that honors fallen airmen, and two granite inscription walls, one situated at either end of the lawn. Attractive bluestone patios join the Honor Guard and the Contemplation Wall. The construction of the memorial began in September 2004 and finished seven months later. The official dedication was held in 2006 under presence of the then current president George W Bush, who himself previously served as an F-102 pilot, together with around 30.000 people in the audience. Why the Air Force Memorial was built was to honor all 54,000 of the men and women that have died in the Air force from combat. The reason behind why this memorial should be made in 1992, when the newly acknowledged Air Force Memorial Foundation suggested that a memorial in honor of the Air Force personnel should be built the plans were authorized by the current president, Bill Clinton, in 1994 and a site for the memorial was chosen. The chosen site was however not the site where it stands today. Instead, the memorial was planned northeast of the Arlington National Cemetery, close to the Iwo Jima Memorial.…
