1. The specific sign such as mood changes.
2. The unusual irritability or aggressive or erratic behavior.
3. A tendency to become confused.
4. Abnormal fluctuations in concentration and energy levels.
5. Impaired job performance and hence reduced productivity.
6. A tendency to suffer an increased number of accidents.
7. Poor time keeping.
8. Absence due to short term sickness.
9. Deterioration in relationship with colleagues, customers or managers.
10. The smell of alcohol, slurred speech and poor co-ordination.
11. A change in appearance becomes scruffy.
12. The evidence of drinking such as discovery of bottles in workplace.

The workers may not be wearing the gloves due to poor size, fit or dexterity making the tasks harder.
The gloves may not be providing adequate protection against the chemical, i.e. chemicals may be breaking through the glove due to poor initial selection of the glove. There may be a new chemical recently introduced to the workplace which is degrading the gloves.
The gloves may have been damaged or degraded over time and not replaced due to poor maintenance of PPE.
There may be no management system for the monitoring of glove use.
There may be no system for reporting of defects and replacement of PPE as necessary. The gloves may have been modified, e.g. cutting finger off to improve dexterity or operation of a touch screen,
