I agree that negative emotions are important because my experience concludes that such emotions like feeling sad, mad, or awful are vital for personal development. In “Negative Emotions” Tori Rodriguez explains the results of a study conducted by Garland and his colleagues. Rodriguez, State that “Earlier this year Garland and his colleagues found that among 125 individuals with a history of trauma who were also in treatment for substance dependence, those who were naturally more mindful both coped better with their trauma and carved their drug less”. In addition, the study came to a conclusion that those patients who were mindful of their substance abuse; consequently, dealt better with their trauma and craved the drug less”. According to dictionary.com being mindful is being “conscious or aware of something”. Furthermore, in being mindful of their negative thoughts and understanding the consequences, allowed them to suppress the pain of their trauma and be optimistic. Rodriguez theory of negative emotions is tremendously useful because it sheds light on the complex problems of trying to suppress negative emotions. A number of research groups conclude that suppressing negative emotions do nothing positive for your health; undeniably, the only way to dispose of negative emotions is to accept them. I've come to a
