Dr. Tyson was born and raised in New York City. At a very early age he knew exactly what he wanted to do. He was fascinated by the stars and the study of space. He would stare at the stars and moon through binoculars and at the age of nine his eyes were truly opened up to the stars when he visited the Old Hayden Planetarium. As a child he studied at Bronx High School of Science, he received his BA in physics from Harvard, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a PhD in astrophysics from Columbia University. In 1996 Dr. Tyson began working at Hayden Planetarium and he has worked his way up to serving as the director of the planetarium. Dr. Tyson is one of Americas most known scientist. Dr. Neil Tyson has spent much of his career sharing his knowledge with others and his goal is to bring the stars and space down to earth. Dr. Tyson and worked on an extensive renovation of the Hayden Planetarium, from assisting with its design to helping raise the funds. Dr. Tyson recently ranted about the movie Gravity and its scientific inaccuracies. He tweeted several comments questioning facts and the realism of the movie such as the way satellites orbit and the effects of zero gravity on the actor’s hair.
