Never Let Me Go Obstacles
Michael Jordan once said “Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” In these two novels the characters experience obstacles that force them to make difficult decisions. Their lives go from ordinary one day to unimaginable the next. In the world humans populate today, it is often seen how the obstacles sprung upon one are hard to overcome. Kazuo Ishiguro's two novels When we were Orphans and Never Let me Go provide one with a plan to overcome these problems. Clearly obstacles can be easily overcome by assessing the extremely tragic situation, accepting it and realizing all the good things present. Throughout this journey of life, …show more content…
In order to accomplish anything and get further one must learn how to work around those situations and accept them. Even when it is hard to believe what is happening, one must face reality. Simply, things just are the way they are. Christopher's mother had a strong political stand against opium smugglers. But never was it believed that they would ruin her life. She was kidnapped by them and taken to be the leader’s concubine. As terrifying as it must seem, to Christopher it was hard to imagine that the reason he did not grow up with a mother is due to a voice of opinion. “Are you not ashamed, sir? As a Christian,as an Englishman, as man with scruples? Are you not ashamed to be in the service of such a company? Tell me, how is your conscience able to rest while you owe your existence to such ungodly wealth?” (Ishiguro, Orphans 63) Christopher's mother was very persistent. She believed so, she voiced so and she got kidnapped because of so. It was not until years later where he found out that the day he was listening to his mother make her stand on such an opinion was the reason he did not grow up with one. Later on he learned to accept the fact because he had the chance to discuss the event with Uncle Philip, everything became more clear. It became evident why things happened, and that it would have been nearly impossible for him to fix any of them. “Your father ran off one day with his mistress. He lived with her in Hong Kong… Then he got typhoid and died, in Singapore…The detectives? Uncle Phil let out a laugh… wouldn’t have found an elephant gone missing in Nanking Road…” (Ishiguro, Orphans) Banks was a man that learned to live with and around tough situations. When he found out his father really was not kidnapped but actually left the family for another women, Christopher was not pleased. An event like that changes your entire life. Who you are, what you were and what you will become. Kathy was always seen as

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

There are no shortcuts to deal with challenges, for one may only become more trapped in their despair. Like Ethan, Zeena and Maddy, many people in the world think that they can liberate themselves of their burdens without actually dealing with them, but that is not how life works. One cannot simply run away from the challenges that block them from their goals; one must defeat and overcome those challenges. Life is not a fairy tale, nor will it ever be. There will never be a knight in shining armor or a witch to hold one back. The only witch that exists in one’s life is oneself, and the only knight is oneself. It is futile to believe that one can evade life and its…

Kevin Conroy once said, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” What Conroy said happens to be extremely relevant and true. Every person who has ever walked the Earth has dealt with adversity in one form or another at least once in his or her life. Two novels, Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Mitch Albom, and Night, written by Elie Wiesel, exemplify the thought of adversity perfectly. Each character battles through the difficulties in his life to make it better for themselves and for those around them. Each novel expresses the theme of adversity through inhumanity, faith, and death.…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

In the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Ruth wants to portray her as being better than other clones. Ruth portrays herself in this matter because she does not want to be a typical clone. This is because a clones’ only purpose is to donate organs. For example in the text it states “what you’ve got to realize,” she said to Chrissie, “is that even though Tommy was at Hailsham he isn’t like a real Hailsham student. He was left out of everything and people were always laughing at him. So there’s no point in asking him about anything like this” (Page 155). With this quote one can see that Ruth is trying to down grade Tommy and make her seem special by inferring that she is qualified for deferrals and Tommy is not.…

Everyone will behave differently when they face adversity. Some of them might give up easily, or they fight with their courage instead of accepting adversity and tragedy. In True Notebooks, Mark Salzman shows us how the boys deal with obstacles. If those boys can’t overcome obstacles, obstacles overcome them. Therefore, they must persist in the end when they face adversity. Sometime, some of them are lucky to overcome obstacles by persisting in the end, but many of them can’t overcome obstacles because of the situation, or they don’t even want to overcome obstacles.…
