New Orleans Business Plan
Expanding Disney Parks and Resorts to New Orleans

The City of New Orleans is an amazing city and has great potential for expansion. Our city has always been defined by the French Quarter and we are so much more than just a “party city.” I believe there is a need to represent New Orleans as more “family friendly”, with numerous attractions beyond Bourbon St. My plan is to propose development in a cautious and fiscally responsible manner, while offering a glimpse of the extraordinarily exciting and expansive visions that I hope to witness in the future. The market feasibility and infrastructure demands must both be carefully assessed. The objective of this tourism plan is to show the possibility of developing a Disney Park and 2 Disney

Walt Disney, creator of Disneyland and Disney World, had a “sustainable tourism” plan and promoted environmental awareness. He avoided destruction to nature and its inhabitants, economy and cultures of the areas where he developed his theme parks. Walt used natural resources long before it became popular to do so, and I would like to see this tradition roll over to New Orleans. In 1955 Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California had only one theme park
(“Magic Kingdom”). The park has since expanded into two theme parks, three themed hotels and much more, all without disturbing the local wildlife and the economy. We did have several theme parks here in New Orleans, however they did not survive. Ponchatrain Beach
Amusement Park had a good run and lasted for 55 years, from 1928 to 1983. However, new
Technologies arose and the park could not compete with the changing of times.
Another theme park, Jazzland, was built in 2000. The park had little success due to location and the lack of support from locals that couldn’t afford the season passes. Then in
2003 Six Flags purchased the failed theme park and tried to revive it by putting money into advertisement and bringing a mascot. Their attempt failed and Katrina was the nail in the

The goals for this plan are quite simple. First, bring in a clean family oriented company and have them invest in our communities and provide jobs for the city. The second goal is make our city one of the top family friendly ventures in the
United States. Like most places the start of the venture would be finding a suitable location that can support all of the rides and hotels that would be built in that area. The main thing Walt
Disney parks are known for there eco-friendly practices like for their snacks that have a 10,000 square foot eco-friendly central bakery that utilizes energy star rated equipment, has a roof filled with tubular skylights to provide natural illumination, and features porous asphalt paving in each of there parking lots to capture and filter and return the rainwater into the ground, serving as a natural recycling system. By bringing in a power house like Disney can only be an asset to our city, If you look at the revenue that is made during the summer time. Blue Bayou is the closest theme park to our city. It has two sides to it, a water park and a theme park

For years, Walt Disney had dreamed of amusement parks where he could his daughters could go for family fun. With amusement parks being cheap, creepy, and dirt in the late 1920’s, Walt always dreamed of place with fun, family attractions that had an upbeat atmosphere; a place that appeared to be away from reality - a type of fairy tale reality (Brad, 2002). Disneyland was first opened in July 17, 1955 (Disneyland History, 2007). With this theme park opening the world view on theme park entertainment had been changed forever. Walt Disney expanded to Florida in 1971. This great success has lead to 11 more Disney themed parks and 5 resorts being opened around the world in places such as Japan, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.…

When Walt Disney was dreaming about the construction of Disneyland, America was becoming the strongest military force in the world. After WWII, there were many “booms” occurring in America, including economy boom, suburb boom, and baby boom. These three booms set a perfect era for the creation of Disneyland. The economic boom came because the government conducted construction of interstate highways and schools. The economic growth further accelerated as the government also spent more money on military, which advanced goods like airplanes and computers. This growth in the economy gave confidence to middle class people and allowed them to spend money to travel and enjoy family time. Because more people were able to pay for leisure activities,…

Both Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida were and still are to great success. Tokyo Disney followed with a slow start but quickly became a successful cash cow like the 2 parks in the United States. Disney next projected success was Euro Disney, today it goes by DIsney Paris. Disney was confident and quite optimistic that the 4th Disney theme park, located just over 30 minutes drive from one of the worlds biggest tourist attractions, Paris would be no different. Some would say a little too confident. However, Disney made some major planning mistakes in many different points of the overall business plan. This lead to a downward spiral into bottomless pit of failure, fast. From day 1, the theme park destined for greatness became a major disaster. How could such a historically successful corporation achieve what management, executives and other high ranking individuals of Disney sought impossible?…

For over 80 years, Walt Disney has been synonymous with family entertainment and animation. Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901 and had been in the entertainment business since the early 1920’s as a director, producer, screenwriter, animator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. In 1923, he co-founded Disney Brothers Cartoon Studios with his brother Roy. Later the name was changed to The Walt Disney Company. In 1928, Walt and Ub Lwerks created Mickey Mouse in which Walt was the voice of Mickey, and Mickey Mouse became the icon for the company (Gondo, 2012). Walt Disney came up with the idea of an amusement park that would allow his employees to bring their families and spend time together. In July 1955, Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California. Later, he wanted to build another park to supplement Disneyland. He did not like the businesses that had been built around Disneyland and wanted control of a much larger parcel of land. He secretively scouted out areas in Florida because he did not want businesses to purchase any of the land around the area he wanted, so he created dummy corporations. He also did not want the landowners to know that Walt Disney was bidding on their land, thus increasing the purchase price. He had bought up most of the land that he wanted when word leaked out about the identity of the buyer. He acquired more than 27,000 acres of land in Orlando, Florida. In the middle of the creation of a new amusement park, Walt Disney passed away on December 15, 1966 of lung cancer, but his vision lives on. In 1971, the new theme park opened, and it was named Disney World. It would be even more elaborate than Disneyland. Walt Disney wanted Disney World to be the Experimental Prototype City (or Community) of Tomorrow, known as EPCOT, their own city. This was to be a Utopian city…
