Breaking down the case being highlighted here, Christine Franklin was a sophomore at North Gwinnett High School back in 1986. While attending that year, she claimed to have been sexually harassed by Andrew Hill, who was a coach at the school. Franklin claimed sexual activity was unsolicited and that Hill forced her into such acts. Hill was accused of engaging her in sexual conversation, in which he asked her of her experiences with her boyfriend and if she would consider having intercourse with an older man. Hill was stated to have kissed her forcefully, calling her at home, asking her to meet him socially, asking other teachers to have her excused from their classes. Most notably, he took her into a private office and subjected her to coercive intercourse.…

What would a person do if they found out that their very own government was killing its people? Definition: False flag (aka Black Flag) operations are covert operations designed to deceive in such a way that the operations appear as though they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying false colors; that is: flying the flag of a country other than one’s own. False flag operations are not limited to war and counter-insurgency operations and can be used during peace-time. False flags are used primarily by governments or organizations to stage very sophisticated surprise attacks on their own soil, and in…

    A Rape On Campus Summary

Rolling Stone’s “A Rape on Campus” was one of the most scandalous journalism mistake ever seen. How a magazine such as Rolling Stone could publish an article that was a complete and total lie, is beyond me. In my opinion, Sabrina Erdely ignored many red flags that should have brought up some skepticism about the story she was reporting on. When Erdely first heard Jackie’s story she said, she remembered being “a bit incredulous” about the vividness of some of the details Jackie offered. This should have been the first red flag that something about this girl’s story was off, but Erdely believed that Jackie’s story was reliable so she continued. Another warning sign would be how Jackie was a “challenging source”. Not only would Jackie not respond to Erdely’s calls, texts and emails, but she also refused to release the name of the man who organized her attack. When Erdely finally did get the name of the man who had overseen her assault, Jackie was unsure how to spell his last name.…

For example, he continually attacks false scientific research often touted in today's advertising campaigns. Perhaps his most effective way of doing this is praising the "pseudoscience" of MagnaSoles (the name of the inserts being advertised). As the meaning of the word pseudoscience is literally false science, the author ridicules not only companies who back merchandise with manufactured research but also the consumers too ignorant to realize the blatant lies. He later accomplishes the same effect with an imagined quote from a consumer with a twisted ankle: "…after wearing MagnaSoles for seven weeks, I've noticed a significant decrease in pain."…

As Barry Ritholtz, the CIO of Ritholtz Wealth Management, asserted, "Little white lies are told by humans all the time. Indeed, lying is often how we get through each day in a happy little bubble." Lying is woven into the fabric of society. Humanity spends so much time and energy justifying its actions and beliefs, that lying seems like the easy alternative, whether to themselves or to others, than simply delving into the "real reasons". That is at the heart of a lie and its mask may be used to gain power, as in the case with Richard Milhous Nixon. Harry Truman expresses his opinion by stating, "Nixon is one of the few in the history of this country to run for high office talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time and lying out…

    Date Rape Play Analysis

According to Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, approximately four out of five rapes are committed by someone known to the victim. The One in Four organization states that “In one year 300,000 college women, over 5% of women enrolled in colleges and universities, experience rape. This does not include other forms of sexual assault” (Kilpatrick, et al.) The brutality of this data stuns me. This is also the reason I take great pride in my writing a one act play about date rape. I wanted to be a part of raising awareness and providing hope and healing to my fellow students as well as members of the community. Unfortunately, I have found that this is a difficult topic for many and not readily discussed by students on college campuses, so I tackled the research and emotional toil needed to write a story about a college student who had been raped.…

Confessions are a very important and crucial piece of evidence in any given case. The weight put into these one little portion of a case is incredible. Confessions are extremely powerful in the court of law, not only because it facilitates a conviction, but because it saves the criminal justice system money on investigations and many other investigative procedures that might of have to be done. Due to the importance of confessions, the concept of false confessions and wrongful convictions has been studied by many researchers, in an effort to have an understanding of why they happen and how can the criminal justice system in general minimize the number of false confessions. When an individual admits to committing a crime that she or he has not…

According to Aldrich Ames “Because interrogations are intended to coerce confessions, interrogators feel themselves justified in using their coercive means. Consistency regarding the technique is not important; inducing anxiety and fear is the point.” Although Ames was incarcerated for life for committing espionage against the United States, his 31 years as a CIA operative and analyst grants him great knowledge about Interrogation techniques and false confessions. Knowledge most jurors would never know about or even cause other jurors to get suspicious of the confessions Police receive in general. Granted potential jurors rarely are informed of much, like their right to jury nullification, which comes in handy when you aren’t sure of the confession…

This case is an example of Innocent Misrepresentation. The seller is W. F. Yost of Red Barn Barbecue Restaurant. Yost committed an Innocent Misrepresentation. Even though he tried to fix most of the violations, but there are still 52 health code violations that were left. According to Cheeseman, “an innocent misrepresentation occurs when a person makes a statement of fact that he or she honestly and reasonably believes to be true even though it is not” (Cheeseman, 2013 page 226). Yost taught that he fixes all violation that was given to him and gave an assurance that “the premises will pass all inspections”. Also, he committed unilateral mistake according to Cheeseman Unilateral mistake “is a mistake in which only one party is mistaken about…
